"Member X found treatment at:"

I've just recently been noticing that some member's posts show a little box at the bottom saying "Member's name found treatment at:" and then clearly you are supposed to have entered the name of where you went for treatment.

Wondering what's up with this?

My apologies if someone else has asked this already and I missed the thread. Please feel free to direct me to the prior thread rather than take your time to reply to me separately.

I was wondering about this too. Never saw it before.

I sent a message a couple days ago to Admin, but I didn't get an answer.

It's weird.

Especially if someone isn't a candidate for rehab. Seems like an idea for advertising gone horribly wrong.

Yeah, that's what I thought too, bim. The ones I saw were over in F&F, and I'm not aware of any formal treatment centers for being the family member or friend of an addict/alcoholic, although we could certainly use them...

I don't really care for the idea of making each post here into a billboard for XYZ Rehab Center, or worse yet, the effect this may have of setting up XYZ team versus ABC team versus WTF team.

I'm hoping that the box is something that can be turned off by the member if he/she chooses.

I don't think we have an answer yet, but we have inquired with the owners.

When I read around "the other side" of the forum (I'm an F&F'er myself), I see a lot of folks posting about coming back after a relapse or otherwise struggling w/staying sober. I wonder if The Powers That Be have thought about how it will look to have a relapsing/still drinking alcoholic with a box in each and every post saying that he/she went to XYZ Rehab...

Any new info? It's been 5 days now, would think someone could have gotten back to us in that time frame.

I'd be willing to bet it's a question when you're signing up for an account. Because some of them say "None N/A", which sounds like 'not applicable'.

It is a new feature that alumni can use for a select group of treatment centers.
It won't affect anyone else here.

I was able to fill in where I got treatment on the "User CP," then on the left under "Your Profile" click on "Edit Your Details," and the treatment facility field is at the bottom.

There is an option to share it in your signature but it is "yes" by default.

Ugh. I think this is a crummy idea- seeing a box that actually says someone sought treatment at N/A or whatever is just.....icky. It's like a little banner that is distracting bc it calls the reader's attention and often I don't think that would be in a constructive way.

Would love to see NO ONE opt in. Be old fashioned - tell us what you're doing in your thread comments

I had the same reaction as many others. I'm fairly new so I thought it had always been there, but it seemed like the forum was violating it's own rules about ad placements.

There's no capacity for links or long spiels as far as I know.

Emily works for the sites owners. Maybe go talk to her

I don't understand what the big deal is. This is a wonderful site that we are allowed to use for FREE. I'm sure it costs a lot of money to keep it up and running. A small box at the bottom of some posts is easy enough to overlook. Surely there are more important things with which to concern ourselves.
