This is kind of crazy

I don't like to complain. Years here and it is not my style, not at all.....but after all of this time with the site being so wonky I can't help it.

It is almost impossible to log in, and just going from page to page you are told you are not logged in.

I can barely get in from my phone anymore.....and that is so frustrating.

And paging down to the bottom of the page is off as well....takes you down to the bottom of the script at the end rather than the last post....

What is going on? Why can't all of this be fixed?

Every day I think about the hundreds of people we must be losing. People who love and depend on this site but can no longer get in.

This has all been happening for weeks and weeks now....and I am finally upset enough to speak up.
I don't mean to be disrespectful. I am just very upset.

Suze. ♥

I get logged off after a short period of time and I remember staying logged in 24/7.

As far as I know guys the techs are still working on it.

For a long time they couldn't replicate the problem themselves - can't replicate, can't fix it. I believe they can now replicate the issue/s.

I haven't noticed an unusual amount of regulars not posting or new members dropping off. If they have, I hope the problem will soon be fixed and they'll come back.

Thanks again for your patience guys

It helped me with my phone to "request desktop site," then log in. As long as I keep posting, it'll usually keep me on. Only if I take a break from it for awhile does it log me off.

I know.....I try that over and over and over. Sometimes I get lucky, sometimes not so much.

This is by design.

Example use case:
- You Log IN
- You start writing a post
- You walk away from your desk and do not hit submit
- You come back later (after 15 minutes).
- You finish your post.
- You hit submit.
- You get logged off.
- You log back in.
- All is lost.

This is by design. Any inactive state of over 15 minutes will result in an automatic log off.

If you are reading a thread that takes you over 15 minutes, you'll get logged off.

If it takes you longer than 15 minutes to write a post, you'll get logged off.

If you take a nap at your desk longer than 15 minutes, wake up, continue on SR. You'll be logged off.

If you go make a pot of coffee and it takes you longer than 15 minutes, you'll get logged off.

If you answer your phone and talk to a significant other about dinner tonight and it takes longer than 15 minutes, you'll get logged off.

Regardless of the situation, if you are posting a long response, it is a good habit to always SELECT ALL YOUR TEXT, COPY, THEN HIT SUBMIT. I'm doing it now because I think I took longer than 15 minutes writing this.

SELECT ALL, COPY, SUBMIT.
forgot to add - I have same problem everyone is describing so am not logged in for the most part and have lost so many posts before seeing what IB wrote above, that I have given up.
Just thought I should share what has been said....maybe it would explain why no answers have been forthcoming.

Thanks Mirielle - I hadn't seen that post.

I presume the 'by design' rationale is to try and combat the large number of spambots and the like that a popular site like this attracts.

It's not even a matter of STAYING logged in for me though, it's just GETTING logged in that's the problem, and has been from the moment I signed up for this forum.

Here's what I experience:

If I go to soberrecovery.com/forums, itís the page with the Sign up and log in buttons in the upper right corner. If I click on sign in, I am taken to a page where I have to manually enter my user name and password. Which I do. Leaving the remember me box unchecked (though it makes no difference either way). Then I am whisked to a Thank you for logging in honeybeez screen - click here if your browser does not automatically redirect you, and then just that fast, whisked back to the soberrecovery.com/forums, with the sign up and log in up in the right hand corner Ö and I am NOT logged in. I can do that on loop ALL DAY LONG. I will not be logged in EVER.

But here's the thing .. the laptop at work (that I'm on right now, saving this to a ***** draft so I can post it later) will experience the above issue in either browser (Chrome and IE). If I throw this laptop in my bag, drive home, and connect to my home primary Wifi, I can log in. From both browsers. If I switch to the secondary wifi (the xfinity mobile wifi) I once again experience these issues and can not log in.

On my phone, I can NOT log in when I'm on mobile data (cellular network) at all. I also can not log in on the xfinity wifi from home (but can from my primary wifi) ... HOWEVER, if I go up the road from the office, I CAN log in from the Xfinity connection available there! I can also log in from the wifi broadcast from the AT&T store ... but NOT from the wifi at the diner up the street.

I remain unconvinced that it's browser or settings related in any way. If my browser, cookies, cache, settings or the like were the issue, I would have that issue regardless of connection.

As far as new members, I was able to sign up without a problem. And follow the link to activate the account. But had I not pursued anything past trying to log in from my desk, I would never have posted here not even once. So there's no telling how many people can't even get logged in to post asking for help getting logged in!! And there's no way for them to reach out for help unless they can log in (and if there IS an email to address log-in technical issues, I could not find it)

I would LOVE to be a active, participating member of this community. But the times and places I can log in from prohibit that. So I'm reduced to reading.

And like venuscat, I'm not trying to be rude or disrespectful. It's just frustrating and sad when I want so much to respond to a post, and can't, because I can't so much as GET logged in.

It's happening now to Courage2 also.

Here's her description:

"At first it was taking me to the login screen even though I was already logged in, and then automatically redirecting me to my subscriptions. Now it says I'm logged in, and redirects me to a page where I'm not logged in, but doesn't let me log in (because I already am)."

Problems persist for me, also.

I consistently receive the "only logged-in users can" message and then am automatically direct to the log-in box where it reflects a logged-in status.

This has been happening for almost 2 months and always while actively posting.

Hello, all.

I'm sorry for the trouble you're having. The tech team and I are struggling to replicate the issue personally, so it's hard to identify what's happening. As Dee said, we haven't seen a steep drop off in activity, so it seems it's only affecting certain members.

We've increased the amount of "idle" time allowed before being logged off (as designed). We hope it helps with the problems you're experiencing. If you can try logging off, clearing cache and cookies, and logging back on again with a fresh connection it may help now that the idle time has been extended.

Thanks

This means you were logged out, you tried to post something, it correctly told you "only logged-in users can...", and were either A) automatically logged in because at one point you had click on "Remember Me" or B) you were asked to log in.

This was tested today and works as expected.

The current session timeout is set to 2 hours. This means you will automatically be logged out after 2 hours.

If you wish for the system not to automatically log you in because at one point you had clicked on "Remember Me", then you'll need to actively click on the Log off link.

What I do, before I post, is refresh the page so I can see if I'm still logged in or not.

Thank you for extending the 'inactive' period to 2 hours.

Thanks.

I always click on the log-off link after every session. Please note that this always happens while I am actively and consistently posting.
