Crack lung?

i was looking for "crystalized lung" from meth, but have only found this about "crack lung" on a site re stimulants. basically the site talked about both crack and meth and this is the closest ive come to "finding anything". recently i found i had pneumonia and prior to that i developed asthma (post meth use). guys, if i die that would really suck. i dont think my dr is taking me serious when i say, "i used methamphetamine and smoked cigs". not that he is not taking me seriously, but what if i have this undetectable thing that he just brushes off as bronchitis/pneumonia. this is very depressing. mostly depressing because im still not well and probably (hopefully) this is not what is wrong, but i need to know! i have recently been sad (i will deny i am depressed till im blue in the face, but i think its going to come down to that) and some paranoia has stuck with me. the anxiety is almost nonexistant at times. guys, help. i also read it can take 6 months to recover from one use of snorting meth... needless to say i have used more than that in other methods. i thought i would be ok guys. i thought i would heal up! now im looking at a cool future and dont even want to get out of bed to see it. i probably wont have that future anyway. and i dont even want to discuss my heart. i thought some excersize and vitamins and not smoking cigs would heal that up. i dont care to use anymore. 15 and a half months later and i feel 87 years old with probably no more life span. is that exaggerating!? or is it? either i totally lose my marbles by age 35 or my lungs give out followed by my heart by age 36. well f*** it, ive still got 15-16 years left. so, someone please tell me i am not going to die so i can get on with life. it would be much appreciated.

"Tracheobronchitis with cough is a frequent accompaniment of crack smoking, as are lobar and nonlobar pneumonias. Bronchospasm is another complaint of these smokers, usually in clients with a history of asthma (Schrank, 1993). Crack lung is a new syndrome that manifests with symptoms of pneumonia--severe chest pains and breathing problems with high fever--but no substantiating lung X-ray evidence. The condition does not respond to standard treatment, although anti-inflammatory drugs may relieve symptoms. Clients with crack lung may suffer from oxygen starvation or loss of blood with potentially fatal results (Gold, 1997)."

Re: Crack lung?

dont worry im sure your doctor is doing everything he has to..But if you really feel your sick and dont think hes helping then go and get another opinion...
But i want you to know you aint alone with those scared thoughts on your health...I think i told you i had endocarditis and thats why i got myself clean...Well its an infection in the heart valve you get from shooting drugs..well sometimes i get pains in my chest and i get scared and think maybe its back...I start thinking all these horrible thoughts and start to think what if i just have a major heart attack while im on the subway or something..But then i calm down and think i go to my doctors i tell them all they need to know...If by chance something does happen..im sure ill be okay..we cant control everything..But your young and so am i..So our bodies have more resilency...I know i spelled that wrong but i think you can get it rite..so im sure youll be okay...
Do you still smoke??cause if you do that can irritate the pneumonia...And make you have it alil longer then you would of if you didnt smoke...My friend had broncitis..(sp?) and then i got it from her although she sed i couldnt...or at least i caught a real bad cough ...well i still have a slight cough and its been a month and half...I still smoke..and i think the smoking is not allowing my lungs to clean out..so they stay irritated...Im planning on quiting next year when ill be more settle in my recovery and outta my parents house...cause i know if i do it now it be setting myself up for failure cause living with my drunk dad doesnt help with my anxiety and anger...
Well im sure your gonna be okay..And its normal for us to worry about our health..I mean gosh were lucky were here..with all the crap we put in our bodies nite and day for however long we used..I know im amazed at how strong my body is...and glad..Im also happy i do worry now..It shows how ive grown cause about 1 and half ago i wouldnt of cared at all what i put in my body or if i was sick...Sometimes though when im pulling my hair out with fear i wish i could go back to that carefree attitude at least for alil bit...Well hope you feel better...Jackie

Re: Crack lung?

thanks janet and jackie,

a second opinion is what i need. it is not that i dont trust him, but i feel i should not still be sick. it is frustrating and scarey. and i have to get my "mental" health in order. god only knows the swiss cheese thats left of my brains... funny, i knew, i KNEW what was in meth but NOOOOOO i used it anyway and swore i would never IV but i did. i quit smoking about 4 months ago, it helps i suppose but i have felt worse ever since. i scare myself with my thoughts though. i am not a suicidal person, but sometimes get into a mode where it is ok for me to be dead. and i stay in it for half a day until i get so distracted by work i just go home and zonk out. i am a happy person though. haha. and i will rock on.

thanks for your replies!

Re: Crack lung?

you welcome dot...I know how you feel..I think of what i did sometimes when i was using..Like the time i crazy glues the black rubber thing on my needle cause i was too lazy to walk a block to the drug store to buy a new one...Or the time i got bad dope and was sick but i hoped that i was wrong and shot it up anyways...I mean god knows what was in that crap..probably plaster or something..It didnt help when i took a class to learn about intervenous use and what we can get from it...i was disgusted to hear how when you share water with others that bacteria grows in the water...if you leave it for too long..and if someone you were sharing the water with had something you can get it...I thought back to when i was living with my bf and we use to have water in cups left for weeks people would come in our room and just be taking water out of the same cups...that we used...gosh there probably was a million things growing in them cups....I really thank god everyday that im as healthy as i am..and i too..told myself that i would never shoot...I remember me and my friend sed we would try every drug except heroin and we would never use needles...A year after we sed that we both were heroin addicts and we both shot up..thats why i never say never i say yet..especially when it comes to active addiction...
I hope that you get the answers you need and i will pray that it aint worse then what you think it is...Your a wonderful person..who is way smart beyond your age...So i hope everything is alright..Im sure everything will be...Wish the best..Jackie

Re: Crack lung?

dot, what site did you read about this on? I remember when I was cracking hard I could hardly breath, my chest would just ache. I would just cough and cough.. damn the nasty brown stuff that used to come up. There was one time when I was jones'n so bad that I smoked it. I figured it came out of my lungs so it had to be resinated. how sick is that! I don't know much about meth. I only did it a couple times. It was always after 3 or 4 days on the crack pipe and it was the only thing around, so I don't think I really ever got the effect of it. I do remember people telling me not to hold the smoke in for too long though, but I don't remember why. something about your lungs will freeze or explode or something like that I think. I shudder thinking of the damage I've done to my body physically. I hope your physical health comes back to you soon. As far as you thinking your going to die in what was it 14-15 years, others before us have done what we did and much more, and have lived many years to tell their story.

Re: Crack lung?

Lets put it this way. If your fears are accurate, then based on what you quoted about crack lung disease, there is no remedy other than going on Prednisone, which they would not put someone your age on unless you have long term history of pulmonary distress that does not change with time.

What if the doctor is right and you do not have any serious long term problem?

How many people out there have researched the internet for something they wanted to know about, because they thought they had some medical problem, and then lo and behold, you find out more than you wanted to know and all of a sudden you read about a disorder and think you have all the symptoms and now you are convinced you have not only that one but fourteen other disorders you "accidentally" read while surfing the web? I think we all have. Relax. Maybe you should see a mental health specialist for anxiety if your fears do not subside.

Re: Crack lung?

Moontime's right dot. Turn it over. Seek the knowledge you need. Turn over the fact that some will always need to lord over you as a justification for something wrong in their own lives.

Re: Crack lung?

Hey Dot,

I'm the queen of anxiety and I've had every terminal disease you can think of. One of the biggest symptoms of anxiety is thinking you have a terminal disease. Even though I know it's probably anxiety I try to ease my mind by having the doctor do a test. I don't have this happen often anymore, but it still does occasionally. Every time I quit smoking it gets worse because my anxiety is worse. You just quit smoking 4 months ago and still need to develop new coping methods that take the place of smoking.

Get a second opinion if it will ease your mind. Ask for a chest x-ray. I don't make light of what you are feeling because I know how hard it is to have those fears. Please remember though that when we have free floating fears we tend to place them somewhere. Where we put them is not usually where they belong.

A big part of anxiety is worry and intrusive thoughts. I have them every day. I've had a lot of success lately by forcing myself to think of something else. I do what needs to be done and then really work on letting the rest go. I ask myself in each circumstance whether I have control over it or not. If I don't have any control I work hard to let it go. If there is something I can do to control any of it then I do what I can.

So go get an x-ray and a second opinion and then let the rest go.

Hugs to you,
MG

Re: Crack lung?

((((butterfly)))) glad to hear from you! rock on!

thanks moon and dan.

MG,

cool beans, thanks. i must look into the fears i cannot control. it seems with school coming to an end within the month i worry so much about papers and homework and then i dont sleep and then i cannot breath and am tired so i keep thinking im going to croak. i suppose all i can control is not using and not smoking. but the crystalized lung thing is still a concern. so i am getting a second opinion. and i will rock on.

hugs and thanks,

-----------EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKkkkkkkkkkkkkk

OMG I would have been terrified if i'd read that when i was smoking! I'm pretty sure i had that for awhile. Never told you of the "bronchitis' incident! Oxygen sats of 75%, etc. And I'm alive to whine about it

Dot, take it easy Sounds like you're going to be OK. You want to talk, catch me and tell me to get my @ss into the chatroom!
