Can Nasal Sprays be addictive?

I just got this nasal spray from my doctor and when I used it it was almost like I got a buzz from it or something it was a really weird feeling, I just wanta be careful, I am so tempted to use it more then i'm suppose to because of the feeling it gave me but I know that is a bad idea. I don't know if anyone has experience with this or if it's all in my imagination and I just think I get a feeling from it. Just trying to be careful. I think it has a kind of steroid in it but I don't know much about that either.

Yes, it's not like opiate addictive, but they are steroids. Steroids come with their own unique form of physical and mental addiction.

If you have more questions, ask your Dr, or pharmacist, they can tell you more.

I was addicted to afrin for years. My doctor told me to use saline solution only. He said if a nasal spray had to be used to use it 3 days on and 3 days off, because of the rebound effect. Be careful. Saline works ok and the good thing it is a salt solution. It also moisturizes the nasal area, and turpin. I battle horrible seasonal allergies.

yes, there was a spray somone i used to know use called Stadol
it is a Butorphanol Nasal Spray and very very addictive.

Nasal sprays are dangerous, especially when they contain narcotics like Stadol.

Even non narcotic ones are abusable, and at the end they cause more misery than they ever purported to help. Stay away, or use ONLY as your doc prescribes them.

Yes, but not in a "give you a buzz" type of way. I have been addicted to Afrin for years. I get soooo stuffy without it because my seasonal allergies. I should get off the stuff as it cant be good for your nose, but I get crazy congested without it.

As far as prescription nasal spray...i dont know.

One of the problems with Afrin is that if you use it for too long and too much, you get a "rebound" effect. Instead of fixing the congestion, it makes it worse. The effect seems to wear off if you stop using it for awhile. I don't think this is medical advice, just a thought about how the stuff works, and what happens with overuse.

I'm pretty sure you're safe on the "medical advice" here. Haha. We aren't talking about hardcore coke afrin, lol. Seriously though, you are right. If you use it for an extended period of time, once the afrin wears off, you will be stuffy again. Repeat, repeat.

ya I will just take it the way the doc prescribed.

The neti-pot is like the greatest thing ever invented...it's a little blue pot that looks like a mini tea pot. It just uses saline solution and gravity to wash the sinus cavities. I used every spray and pill ever made for chronic sinusitis and nothing worked as good as the neti-pot. I try to use it every day.

I heard of the neti-pot -- is it Thai?

FT...I think it originated in India...marketed here in US by a co called Neli-med. Any CVS, walgreens, grocery store will have it for like $15
