GREAT thread **{North}}!!
In my early recovery when I barely had the energy to do much of anything, music was my saving grace!! I had the radio on and jamming/singing my heart out in every room of the house while I did chores!!
I always have the radio full blast jamming while I cook, do dishes or work in the kitchen! I switch back and forth from the new style music to the classics from the
50's, 60's and 70's!

Some favs are: Fleetwood Mac, Rod Stewart, Carole King, James Taylor, Macy Gray, Jewel, Sheryl Crow, Aimee Mann, Aerosmith, Van Halen, AC/DC, to name just a few!
I also love listening to Patsy Cline, Tony Bennett and even have a couple Charlotte Church CD's {LOL!}...Oh, and call me 'quirky' but I even listen to Pavarotti {Rest in peace} now and then!!
THIS song makes me extremely happy!! {Ok..don't laugh!!} I was only 2-years old at the time but my Mom always sang that song to me so it just kind of stuck with me!

Jane, I loved that song! By your list I think you're in my age group!

I have one totally inappropriate thing to say and don't you all go and get pissed at me. My brother used to work for the ferry company to Martha's Vineyard, and James Taylor got off the ferry one evening and got high with my brother! I know, I know, but I didn't have any other celebrity stories and I do love that man's voice. I was supposed to see him in concert 6 years ago, and my water broke right before the concert.

When I was in early recovery, one of my favorite songs was Train's "Drops of Jupiter"

That's actually kind of cool except for the fact that that is why him and Carole King could never stay together through all his addictions. I often wonder if her song, "You've Got A Friend" is about him?

I have a few "celeb stories"... I once was alone in an elevator with the lead singer of AC/DC {cool guy!}, was invited on Skid Rows tour bus but my G/F chickened out at the last minute! {def.a good thing! LOL!} and was in the same dressing room with Joe Perry {Aerosmith guitarist} at a Wilson's Leather Store trying on leather pants!! {OK, not in the exact same room with him! hehe!}

"Chill" with Mindi Abair. (On the radio here once a week for just 2 short hours)

Chill is described as heartfelt, trendy mood music with roots in Smooth Jazz. It is an attitude, a lifestyle, an audio aphrodisiac that will rescue you from stress.

I really really liked to listen to "The Chill Side of the Mountain" with Amanda Thorne, but Amanda booked up to SF and left "The Mountain" (a Seattle FM radio station) and they were so put off by it they discontinued the show (I think a radio station lured her away). On the bright side I taped a lot of it and with her saying (sooo Chill) "The Chill side of the Mountain".

If you would like to "Chill" check out Mindis' site: http://www.mindiabair.com/

this sounds crazy, but from the Allstate commercial about Teen Driving, ya know where he says each year, so and so amount of kids go out for a drive and never come back? The background song is from Jason Wade of Lifehouse made exclusively for this commercial. Its called From Where you ARe. Available as a single on Nov something on Itunes. Its a beautifully haunting song. You can also hear it in full and see vidoe on Allstate website, teendriving section.

I love One Republic's song "Apologize" with Timbaland.

I like everything except classical. I also love country. I guess it's in my blood. I was born and raised in Nashville, TN. I like rap but not all of it. I absolutely LOVE Sarah Mclachlan. I've been a fan of hers since I was 15. The first cd that she released was my very first cd that I ever owned...and it STILL works. And also Citizen Cope is awesome. Every song that he has is great. I really love the song "Dead Skin" by Crossfade and "Hate me" by Blue October. I also tend to like depressing songs.

I know this Dylan tune by heart:

Just like Tom Thumb Blues (from memory)

When you're lost in the rain in Juarez and it's Easter time tooooo
And your gravity fails and negativity don't pull you throoooough.
Don't put on any airs when you're down on Rue Mark Avenuuuuue
They got some hungry women there
and they really make a mess out of youuuuu

Now if you see Saint Annie please tell her thanks a looooot
You cannot move and you're fingers are all in a knooooot
You don't have the strength to get up and take another shhhhhot
And your best friend, your doctor won't even say what it is you've gooooot

Sweet Melinda the peasants call her the goddess of glooooom
She speaks good english and she invites you up into her rooooom
And you're so kind and careful not to go to her tooooo sooooon
And she takes your voice and leaves you howling at the mooooon

The house up on Project Hill it's either fortune or faaaaasme
You must pick up one or the other
though neither of them are to be what they claaaaaim
And if you're lookin' to get silly you better go back to from where you caaaaame
Because the cops don't need you and man they expect the saaaaame

Now all the authorities they just sit around and boooooast
How they blackmailed the Sergeant-at-Arms into leaving his pooooost
And picking up Angel who just arrived here from the coooooast
Who looked so fine at first but left looking just like a ghooooost

Don't start out on Burgandy you'll soooon hit the harder stuuuuuff
Everybody will say they'll stand behind you when the getting gets rouuuuugh
But the joke is on you there'll be nobody there even to call your bluuuuuff
Go back to New York City I do believe you've had eeeenuuuuuf

Miles Davis is my favorite of all time. He used to brag that he "revolutioned jazz five times", when I first heard that I assumed he was just being egotistical. But now that I know his music, I believe it.

He fought a heroin addiction for many years. In my opinion his best stuff came in the years right after he kicked dope.
