Cocaine Nose Worries - Plz Help!!! I have used Cocaine now for around 6 months. I have used only at the weekend but have went on weekend binges. For the last month, my nose has been blocked up and I have been constantly been sneezing and having to blow my nose. What I found last week has put me of the drug for life. My nasal passages are much wider than they used to be and the septum (middle bit of my nose) is now much much thinner than it was. This has really worried me and I am never going to touch any kind of drug again. In fact it has totally scared me to the point Iam worried about it every hour of every day. That’s why I have come here. I suppose the main question I have is will my nose get any worse even though I have have stopped using cocaine completely? I have done a bit of research into this and have found out that cocaine constricts blood vessels in the nose which can cause tissue in your nose to die. This is what I think has happened to me. I have bought a saline (salt water) nasal spray and am using this to help keep my nose clear and moisturised. (Someone did tell me that these nose sprays can constrict the blood vessels in your nose further) Any truth I this?. Also I have stopped smoking and am visiting the steam room in hope this will also help moisture my nose. Is there anything else I can do to help my nose. Someone suggested I should try using vitamin E oil inside my nose?? My nose is very dry and crusty. Please help me because I am really worried about this. Will my nose get any worse even though I have stopped using cocaine? Or will the tissue Ive lost regrow and re-generate over time? |

I imagine seeing a doctor would be a good idea?!? Perhaps even an ENT specialist? (We aren't allowed to give medical advice) In the mean time, Carmolol is pretty good too for moisturizing and I believe it is still OTC. |
Hi Scott, Go see a doctor if you can. Tell him whats going on. I had my septum operated on when I was younger. Did coke all the time and my sinuses paid a heavy price. I used a saline solution and also used water. This may work for temporary relief. The good news is that things should go back to normal if you dont use anymore. I snorted so much its a miracle I can still breath. I have a ringing in my ears all the time since I stopped and Im sure its caused from doing a lot of that. Sometimes allergy medication helps but check with a doctor first. |
I used large amounts of cocaine and I no longer have a septum and have chronic sinus problems. I commend you on stopping that must have been difficult. I suggest seeing a doctor but mine said there was nothing I could do other then surgery (which I may opt for in the future). It will take awhile for your sinus's to start working properly but I know my nose will never work properly again |
SJ, My aunt's nose caved in from cocaine abuse. Perhaps I shouldn't say "caved in" but she has a noticeable dent. She did it for a long time. She wishes she'd quit sooner. Keep posting! Jane |
See a doctor. |
Thanks for advice guys. I really havent been doing cocaine for that long. I only started using when I was on holiday in late March. Thats really only 6 months I been using and its really only been a weekend thing. However I have went on weekend benders where my nose has bled and my nostrils have been so blocked that I couldnt breathe at all. It was only a week ago I noticed that I have lost a fair bit of tissue inside my nose and that my nasal septum has narrowed a lot. Seeing that really did give me a massive scare. Iam only young and I do care about my looks. I asked myself why I am doing this to my body. It had to stop and since then I have been clean. Problem is, a lot my my friends take drugs so I have to stay strong. I know that I am going to be around people who will be taking cocaine and around people who will be offering me lines. I know I will be Ok if I am sober but when I have had a drink my cravings for cocaine are stronger. I am just going to have to think about how I felt when I noticed my nasal problems. I know you guys are not allowed to give any medical advice but surely my nose cant get any worse or I cant lose anymore nasal tissue if I dont touch cocaine againe? That is what I am worried about the most. I know I can stay strong and not touch cocaine every again. Can nasal tissue grow back or re-generate over time? PS. ALAN, TANYA, JANIED - HOW MUCH COKE WERE YOU USING? LIKE HOW MUCH WERE YOU GOING THROUGH IN A WEEK OR AT THE WEEKEND? |

It doesn't really matter 'how much coke' they were doing, everyone's body is going to react differently. Like the others said, these are questions that a doctor can answer for you. None of us here can answer doctor related questions.:c033: Congratulations on quitting, that is great! :headbang: If your worried about your temptations when you drink for cocaine, that's the first sign that you should probably think about your drinking. I hope you do what is best for yourself. Welcome to SR! :bundance |
coke is no joke, let me tell ya from experience, ur lucky u didn't have contant nose bleeds and ur lucky u still have ur septum cause some users don't, I had constant nose bleeds myself from the drug, but yea, ENT docs will help too. try vaseline to moisten ur nose too. |
It is definately true that some nose sprays resrict blood vessels, when we have a cold or allergies our blood vessels swell up and that causes our noses to feel plugged up. Nose sprays have a small amount of an amphetamine. This chemical reduces the size of the blood vessels. I personaly would stay away from nose sprays and coke period. Then go talk to your doctor. And then leave it at that. ....Joe |

It definately can get worse Scott, much worse. The body has a remarkable way of healing itself, if only we let it.. |
I realize that people bodies have different reactions. However Iam just interested in knowing how much cocaine you have to go through to class yourself as an addict? Is it an everyday thing, every couple of days or just an every weekend? I didnt class myself as an addict because I could get through the day easyily without a line. In fact in the 6 months Ive been using cocaine, I can only remember using cocaine through the week maybe 3 - 4 times. I really am annoyed at myself because all the warnings signs were there. The constant stuffy nose, blowing out all sorts of crap and the dry crustyness. If I can stay away from drugs this weekend then it will be a massive mile stone for me. It will be the first weekend in 6 months I will have been drug free and I will be proud of myself.

I snorted meth for maybe 4 months. that was a long, long time ago. mmm in the early 90's There a sore in my nose still to this day. i use to work in the old folks home...it was wicked to see a person without a nose. She puts on a fake one, but it was still wickage to her without a nose. |
If you stop long enough, it will heal. I wish you well. |

I want to stop and I will. I have to. I pray that you do. For your whole self, not just your nose. There is no good to come from cocaine. Absolutely none. |
Hi, First I would like to add your very strong willed to stop due to this for I? I would crush percocete, vicodin oxycontin and sniff this for about 3 years str8 I blew my nose one day and out came blood, I called talked to a nurse who told me my nose could collasp, other internal injuruies, scared me then I still would use this way. OK I am no longer using On Methadone no cravings cause of the Methadone and hope soon to be off this... Get a apointment in with your primary care doctor and see a nose and sinus doctor tell the truth and take it from there for and yes damage could still go on after you stop many things can happen like a infection that you will not notice that even antibiotics can not take care of, you may have to have your nose and sinus cavities scraped and cleansed this is to save your nose and sinus from further damaghe and more so? yes it will hurt, but please get to a doctor fast that is theonly way you will know. |
Hope this helps Hey! I'm new here, but I was a cocaine addict for two years straight. At the time I was with a guy who was also a cocaine addict. He had some pretty bad problems with his nose as well. The middle part of his nose (septum?) completely wore away. His nose bled all the time and I had to help him clean out the blood clots that prevented him from breathing through his nose. I'd say just stop doing cocaine all together. Use the saline solution for your nose and do whatever you can from letting your nose dry out. When your nose dries out, it is painful and it can bleed. I used to get a Q-tip and put lotion on it and rub it around the inside. It actually helped me with my sneezing! You can also get some vitamin E gel capsules and squeeze out some vitamin E onto a Q-tip and rub it in your nose too. That was the best thing that helped my nose to heal. Hope this helps you a bit! Get back at me if you need any other tips on getting your nose back to normal! Good luck! |
