Honeypig's post this morning was so beautiful, I had to bring it to the new thread.
October 12, 2019
Everywhere the transformation will look different, just as spring comes to each spot with subtly different signs and vestiges. In city and suburb, in poor nation and rich nation, in tropic and farm belt and pole, environmental hope will appear in various disguises. Some places it will come as a sleek new bus or a bike path; in others as a cleaned-up slum, a repaired school, a cry of joy at the birth of a baby girl. Here in the Appalachians, on some not-too-distant day, I will wake up and drink a glass of fresh milk from a neighbor's small dairy; that night I will hear a pack of wolves howling from Buck Hill. And it will raise the hair on my arms, and it will fill me up with hope. Hope that the greenhouse effect might someday abate. Hope that this society might be starting the climb down from overdevelopment. Not hope that everything will be fine--everything isn't going to be fine. But hope that the sky is brightening a little in the East.
Live your joy,
Go against the grain.
Don’t be made timid by worried rejection.
Let nature’s curious wisdom fill you.
Let the world’s mystical heritage guide you.
Paint your canvasses,
play your tunes.
~Thomas Moore

I was listening to the wolves howl & MrH thought it was outside in our hills . (We don't have wolves, but our coyotes sound similar). Anyway, what a beautiful, haunting sound.

Sometimes, when a bird cries out,
Or the wind sweeps through a tree,
Or a dog howls in a far off farm,
I hold still and listen a long time.
My soul turns and goes back to the place
Where, a thousand forgotten years ago,
The bird and the blowing wind
Were like me, and were my brothers.
My soul turns into a tree,
And an animal, and a cloud bank.
Then changed and odd it comes home
And asks me questions. What should I reply?

I do this all the time. I see so many walking the nature paths with ear sets blocking the outside sound or driving through quiet hills with their radios blaring...they miss the point, they miss the "sounds" that bring us peace and help our souls heal and feel joy.
Many walk talking away incessantly to each other, never looking around or listening and they miss the entire show of birds and deer and ancient trees whispering their secrets and you pass by.
Stop, look and listen was an early message most people got. They need to remember.

It's not the size of the dog in the fight; it's the size of the fight in the dog.
~ Mark Twain
And never was there a little dog with a bigger fight in her. After 15 years here on the earth, 13 of which I was fortunate enough to spend with her, my little one ended her fight. She spent the last 2 years in end-stage renal disease with labs that made my vet say "This dog has no business even being alive, let alone eating, playing and doing as well as she is."
She grieved the loss of her brother, curling into a circle and crying sometimes, but she soldiered on in time. She leaped from the top step to the ground when let out, she played little running games that only she knew the rules to. She was my friend during some hard times, especially the time right after Ned left us.
And early this AM, we let my shiny little black daughter go to be with her beloved brother Ned. Green grass and high tides to you, little girl, bravest little dog of all.
Ned and Daisy many years ago, helping me check out some new tea that came in the mail:

Thank you, Caramel and venus. It helps to know that so many of you here at SR understand what it is to lose such a dear friend of all those years.

(((HP))) I am so sorry for the loss of your canine daughter. I know how badly it hurts to let them go, to release them from their suffering. Sending you hugs and love.

Shedding tears & sharing your pain, dear friend. Nothing for it but time to pass & take the edge off a little - but we'll never, ever forget them. Each one is a treasure in their own way - never to be replaced.

Thank you, least and Hev. Although there is so much pain in losing them, it doesn't even come close to equaling the love and joy of having them in our lives.

We wouldn't trade one day just to have fewer tears.

You're so right! I miss all my critters who have gone on to heaven, but I take joy in the knowledge that I'll be with them again someday. And I take great joy in knowing that they had a good life with me.

Thanks, venus. When I open the door to let them out, I find myself standing there, waiting for the 3rd dog to come. Same when I go to let them in.
