I believe in strangely wrapped gifts. When I was struggling in my darker days of recovery, I isolated...a lot. My husband was working a project out west so I could isolate in the house and get away with it....but I knew I needed to make myself enter the world once more...and as my recovery grew, I did.

But the gift that came from all this was my ability to like being alone with me sometimes, and to learn all about quietude and meditation and classical music and just making my own space and enjoying it.

I learned the difference between isolation and solitude....darkness and light.

Thank you for this reminder, Daisy.

I'm someone who thrives on "alone time." I often have to struggle not to be judgmental about my fellow humans. But as the quote above says, there have been enough times that I've been sad, angry, fearful, discouraged or tired and I've had that encounter, maybe only for a few moments, with someone who lit the flame again and helped me get through the hour/day/week. And I'm extremely grateful for that, and for the reminder to think about that!

Thank you lovelies, I'm a person who used to isolate a lot when I was drinking, I'd avoid answering the door, the phone, avoid going out and speaking to people. Being home alone was my golden opportunity to drink and sleep. I still do have a tendency to hide away when I'm stressed but I watch myself and don't allow myself to slip back. I love my own company these days, I make good use of any time alone, reading, gardening, painting pebbles or just visiting S.R to read and post.
Honeypig I can also struggle to not be judgemental about other people and I also have to work extra hard to battle my resentments,
My strangely wrapped gift is to be able to accept myself as I am and recognise that I am a work in progress and for that I am truly grateful. xxx

Mindfulness is simply being aware of what is happening right now without wishing it were different; enjoying the pleasant without holding on when it changes (which it will); being with the unpleasant without fearing it will always be this way (which it won't).

It is Canadian Thanksgiving weekend so I want to post a few days of harvest and full moons and autumn splendour.

"The Thanksgivings," (a traditional Iroquois prayer)

We thank Him for all the fruits that grow on the trees and vines.
We thank Him for his goodness in making the forests, and thank all its
trees.
We thank Him for the darkness that gives us rest, and for the kind Being
of the darkness that gives us light, the moon.

We thank Him for the bright spots in the skies that give us signs, the
stars.
We give Him thanks for our supporters, who had charge of our harvests.
We give thanks that the voice of the Great Spirit can still be heard
through the words of Ga-ne-o-di-o.
We thank the Great Spirit that we have the privilege of this pleasant
occasion.

I shall stop climbing today, Daisy, and enjoy the view.

The full moon shone brightly and followed us home from my brother's last night. How gorgeous is was rising over the hills and smiling down on us all the way.

Grateful today for all the beauty that surrounds me.
