All you folks here understand some things that other people could never understand, and understand other things in a different way than others ever could. It will be 7 years in March since I stumbled onto this site, and the people here have helped me change my life. That's a simple statement of fact, not in any way overblown or exaggerated. I'm so, so grateful for you all.

Thank you, HP, and you have changed my life. I take more time to ponder, more time to notice the beauty that surrounds me.

And trees...we share such a love of trees.

We do understand each other, we are each quite different from each other and yet united in spirit by sharing our words, pictures and love.

So very true.

And the tree thing? Just recently I got one of my two books by Thomas Pakenham (Remarkable Trees of the World and Meetings with Remarkable Trees) off the shelf and put it on the kitchen table for random perusal during my coffee breaks and sitting-down moments. If you haven't seen his books, Ann, definitely look into them; I feel certain you'll enjoy them.

That's a lovely thing to say Honeypig and I feel humbled by your post. Though I haven't been in this thread very long, I feel a sense of calmness and understanding when I read the posts here, I feel as though I belong and am understood too, if that makes any kind of sense. I couldn't put it any better than Ann did. Thank you.

Lead Us ~ St. Augustine

Lead us, O God, from the sight of the lovely things of the world
To the thought of thee their Creator;
And grant that delighting in the beautiful things of thy creation,
we may delight in thee, the first author of beauty
and the Sovereign Lord of all thy works, blessed for evermore.

I saw this picture this morning and searched for a prayer to go with it, usually I do things the other way around.

I love how the red cardinal catches your eye, a small part of larger beauty but wise enough to just enjoy the surroundings.

I have Christmas cards sort of along those lines, Ann. They caught my eye for the same reason that picture caught yours, I think. Here's what they look like:

I love your card, HP, and Daisy, I love the cardinal.

We have a pair of cardinals, a young pair I think, who come to my patio for seed 2 or 3 times a week (or more often but I miss seeing them). The tend to come when the squirrels and mourning doves are gone, and they linger in the seed, carefully choosing the black sunflower seeds that they like best, Just watching them is magic. Watching them sit in the tree before they land is magic too. I don't take pictures because they are so skittish and I don't want to frighten them away.
