An apartment I lived in many years ago had very leaky windows. In the winter, ice would form on the inside of the window in beautiful crystals. Cold in there, but the crystals were lovely and delicate.

A fundamental difference between our culture and Eskimo culture, which can be felt even today in certain situations, is that we have irrevocably separated ourselves from the world that animals occupy. We have turned all animals and elements of the natural world into objects. We manipulate them to serve the complicated ends of our destiny. Eskimos do not grasp this separation easily, and have difficulty imagining themselves entirely removed from the world of animals. For many of them, to make this separation is analogous to cutting oneself off from light or water. It is hard to imagine how to do it.

― Barry López, "Arctic Dreams"

Gorgeous pics, HP!

And yes, we need to learn to live well with animals. I cannot imagine a life without them.

Song of a Man Who Has Come Through

Not I, not I, but the wind that blows through me!
A fine wind is blowing the new direction of Time.
If only I let it bear me, carry me, if only it carry me!
If only I am sensitive, subtle, oh, delicate, a winged gift!
If only, most lovely of all, I yield myself and am borrowed
By the fine, fine, wind that takes its course through the chaos of the world
Like a fine, an exquisite chisel, a wedge-blade inserted;
If only I am keen and hard like the sheer tip of a wedge
Driven by invisible blows,
The rock will split, we shall come at the wonder, we shall find the Hesperides.

Oh, for the wonder that bubbles into my soul,
I would be a good fountain, a good well-head,
Would blur no whisper, spoil no expression.

What is the knocking?
What is the knocking at the door in the night?
It is somebody wants to do us harm.

No, no, it is the three strange angels.
Admit them, admit them.

~ D. H. Lawrence

In the beginning, darkness covered the face of the deep.
Then the rushing-breath of life
Hovered over the waters.
Let us breathe together.
Let us catch our breaths
From the need to make, to do.
Let us be conscious of the Breath of Life.
We breathe out what the trees breathe in.
We breathe in what the trees breathe out.
Together we breathe each other into life.
Blessed is the One within the many.
Blessed are the Many who make one.

~ Rabbi Arthur Waskow

I hope so, HP. Your posts and pictures each day here have made my world a better place.

I hope we will see you back one day soon. Just know how much you have given to each of us too, and yes, sharing your loss of Ned helped my heart grow and I feel like I knew him.

You are very loved, wherever you go, your light will shine brightly.

Thank you, Hevyn.

I am going to be taking a break from SR for an undetermined amount of time. I want to say thank you so much to all of you who've come this far with me. I never could have done it alone. I appreciate everyone's contributions and each person's individual wit, wisdom and insight.

I especially want to say a very heartfelt thank you to those who helped me through the terrible time after my dear boy Ned, the one and only, the original Honeypig, died nearly a year ago. I have saved the poems and thoughts you all sent, and I am so grateful for your help in carrying that heavy, heavy weight of grief.

How lovely, Bim. I love the words, the picture and the concept.

What a lovely way to remember someone, by planting something that will grow and live on in their memory.
