Maybe Ann love, we can't 'shake a funk' easily because

Quote:
This means whatever mental picture we hold inside our minds we will attract from the Universe.
Perhaps we can't 'shake it' at all, perhaps we just need to change the picture in our head, and hold on tightly to our vision, and allow the universe to help us, to transform the dark thoughts into brightness. s

I am not in a good place myself, and I need to re-paint the picture in my head this morning. s

Well said, Venus. I will remember that next time funk comes knocking on my mind.

Elder’s Meditation of the Day June 8

“So we are connected to the moon. That gives us power, a connection to the Earth and the moon, men don’t know about.”
–Cecilia Mitchell, MOHAWK

The Elders tell us that the Woman has access to special powers. The Earth Mother gives her love in a special way to the Woman. The Moon also gives special powers to the Woman. She uses these powers to nurture, heal, and guide the people.

Great Spirit, today, give a special Blessing to our Women.

I just read it myself on Wellbriety. I think we're on the same schedule.

We must have Special Powers.

Elder’s Meditation of the Day June 9

Every part of this country is sacred to my people. Every hillside, every valley, every plain and grove has been hallowed by some fond memory or some sad experience of my tribe. Even the rocks, which seem to lie dumb as they swelter in the sun along the silent shore in solemn grandeur, thrill with memories of past events connected with the fate of my people.
—Chief Seattle, SUQUAMISH

Native people say the Earth is sacred. Some places on Earth will feel more sacred than others. You can often feel the sacredness of these places because of what has happened on them. If you do a ceremony on a certain place and return later, whatever happened before will still be there to help you. Even if someone you didn’t know did something on the Earth and you come along later, the powers will be there to help you. This is why the Earth is sacred and these special places are sacred spots.

My Creator, let the powers of the sacred places help the people today.

The Calusa shell mounds in Florida, the hoodoos that are millions of years old in Alberta, the little chapel by the sea on Captiva Island, the ghost trees on Lover's Key...these are all sacred ground and if you stand there and close your eyes and you can "feel" the spirits of those who went before you there.

The lessons are still there if you listen carefully you can hear them in the gentle breeze.

I feel this way about the huge cedars north of my house, Ann. They've stood there for 100+ years, facing the north winds of all those winters. I can feel that they know things...

They do, HP, I am certain they do. Isn't is soothing to be among these things and just feel the wonder of it all?

Yes indeed, it is, Ann.

One night, soon after the X moved out, I woke up fearful and anxious in the wee hours of the morning. As I lay there, searching for some way to calm myself down, I noticed movement on the wall alongside my bed. It was shadows of the branches of those trees moving in the wind, cast by the streetlight further out. Almost immediately I felt much more calm, as if those beautiful old trees and my sturdy old house were conspiring to let me know that everything would be OK, they'd been around a lot longer than I had and would take care of me.

Originally I had plans to make a sort of "nature hanging" on that wall, but I have not hung that or any other artwork on that wall--I sleep w/the shade open and the wall bare so I can see those shadows and feel how blessed I am to have these majestic beings looking out for me.

Kind of a "woo woo" little tale, but it was powerful that night and has never left me.

That IS art, the shadows of the trees on your walls! You cannot capture that kind of magic in anything you might hang there. I think that WAS a special moment, HP, I totally get the feeling of enlightenment you must have felt.

I have a mirror hung in a strange place on my wall, it doesn't look out of place, just in an odd spot. On a full moon night, for maybe 7 full moons of the year, it reflects through my window and I can watch it through my window or in the mirror, and it never fails to tickle my spirit. "Goodnight Moon" is more than a children's book, it's what I say when that old moon shines down on me.

Ann, I feel the trees. I remember sat on my back step once and there was a slight breeze gently blowing the birch trees, their soft noise almost felt like they were talking to me, I was mesmerised!

You are receptive, Mags, most people are too busy or their minds are too preoccupied to see the beauty or feel the sun or listen to the breeze tell us about life. I wish the world would put down their technology, dress comfortably and just walk in a forest or on a beach...alone...just nature and them and God. They would learn more in that one day than years of technology could ever teach them.

Elder’s Meditation of the Day June 10

“Each day, whatever I am doing, I am always praying and thinking of God.”
–Thomas Yellowtail, CROW

Have you ever tried going through your day and carrying on a conversation with the Creator? Many of our Elders live in prayer. They talk to the Creator like the Creator is their best friend. It is easiest to do this if we pray in the morning and ask the Great Spirit to direct our thinking. When the Creator is involved in guiding our lives, we will have less stress, anxiety, and tension. Maybe this is something we would like to try today. “Oh, Creator, look at the Sun, how beautiful you have made it. Oh, look at this child, isn’t she just beautiful! Well, Creator, I’m not sure how I should do this task, what do you think? This person is starting to irritate me; I need your help to redirect my thinking. Thanks for returning me to a peaceful mind.” Remember, the Creator also has a sense of humor.

Grandfather, Grandmother, let me walk in prayer.

The great recovery author, Melody Beattie once wrote "Pray for anything you want, God will sort out the junk."

When I read those words for the first time, I breathed a sigh of relief. I had been raised to be careful with prayer, don't bother God because He's busy, so make your prayers important and brief. Phooooey, the God of my understanding walks with me all day every day and we talk often. Sometimes I will just sigh "God, what ARE you doing?" God laughs and then shows me, and we keep walking a little wiser for the journey.

Elder’s Meditation of the Day June 11

“Behold, my brothers, the spring has come; the earth has received the embraces of the sun and we shall soon see the results of that love!”
–Sitting Bull, SIOUX

Spring is the season of love. Spring is the season of new life, new relationships. It is the springtime that really reacts to the new position of Father Sun. New life forms all over the planet. Life is abundant. New cycles are created. Mother Earth changes colors, the flowers are abundant. It is the time for humans to observe nature and let nature create within us the feeling of Spring. We should let ourselves renew. We should let go of the feeling of Winter. We should be joyful and energetic.

My Maker, let me, today, feel the feelings of Spring.

The Wellbriety site seems to be down right now, as is the White Bison site...the two places I get my morning medictations from. So, until it is back up, I will continue to post indiginous inspirations and hope you enjoy them.

Chief Dan George was one of the wisest of all, a funny man too if any of you remember him in the movie Little Big Man with Dustin Hoffman. This is one of his great sharings.

The beauty of the trees, the softness of the air,
the fragrance of the grass, they speak to me.

The summit of the mountain, the thunder of the sky,
the rhythm of the sea, speaks to me.

The faintness of the stars, the freshness of the morning, the
dewdrop on the flower, speaks to me.

The strength of the fire, the taste of the salmon,
the trail of the sun, and the life that never
goes away, they speak to me.

And my heart soars.

Chief Dan George

Not sure what is happening with either of those sites Ann, so I grabbed today's meditation from their FB group. I hope you don't mind.

Elder's Meditation of the Day - June 13

"We have an old saying, Everything living must die. Only the rocks and mountains are forever."
-- Archie Fire Lame Deer, LAKOTA

The Creator designed all life to happen in a circle. For example, the cycle of life for the human being is Baby, Youth, Adult, Elder, then we die. The trees and the leaves happen in a circle; the leaves bud, then the leaves mature, next the leaves change color, and at last they fall off the tree to return to the Mother Earth. The birds bear their young, raise their young, then they die. The salmon are born, swim to the ocean, live their lives, swim back to the spawning grounds, then die. All aspects of the Life Cycle should be honored.

Great Spirit, today, let me enjoy today.
