That's a good one Ann, thank you. x

We should be lifting each other up and cheering each other on,
not trying to outshine one another.
The sky would be awfully dark with just one star.

I keep this mantra in my purse and read it when I'm feeling particularly anxious. It's helped me so much, I hope it helps others too.

Breathe.
You’re going to be okay.
Breathe and remember that you’ve been in this place before.
You’ve been this uncomfortable and anxious and scared, and you’ve survived.
Breathe and know that you can survive this too.
These feelings can’t break you.
They’re painful and debilitating, but you can sit with them and eventually, they will pass.
Maybe not immediately, but sometime soon, they are going to fade and when they do, you’ll look back at this moment and laugh for having doubted your resilience.
I know it feels unbearable right now, but keep breathing, again and again.
This will pass.
I promise it will pass.

This is a classic from my treasures, I read it often and many times I see it from a different perspective and it always remains meaningful to me.

The Invitation

By Oriah Mountain Dreamer

It doesn't interest me
what you do for a living.
I want to know
what you ache for
and if you dare to dream
of meeting your heart's longing.

It doesn't interest me
how old you are.
I want to know
if you will risk
looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesnt interest me
what planets are
squaring your moon...
I want to know
if you have touched
the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened
by life's betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.

I want to know
if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.

I want to know
if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you
to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us
to be careful
to be realistic
to remember the limitations
of being human.

It doesn't interest me
if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear
the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.

I want to know
if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
"Yes."

It doesn't interest me
to know where you live
or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.

It doesn't interest me
who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me
where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know
what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.

I want to know
if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like
the company you keep
in the empty moments.

This part poked me in the heart today because I think I have reached that time of my life and experience where I CAN do that.

Failure, I have learned, is simply life suggesting a change of path or a nudge to rethink a situation and figure out what may have been overlooked. It's not a bad thing, it's just a thing that every experiences now and then. As as with most "things", it is what you do with it that matters more than the "thing" itself.

So yes, I shall stand at the edge of the lake and shout "YES" to the moon, because I am finally beginning to understand life...and I like what I see.

Just my musings on a rainy afternoon, thank you for listening.

Thank you Ann and Opi. Ann I actually read 'The invitation' a couple of days ago and kept it for my own box of treasures. x

My thoughts for tonight....

Always try to leave people better than you found them.
Hug the hurt.
Kiss the broken.
Befriend the lost.
Love the lonely.

Ann, I first read "The Invitation" many years ago. I don't think I understood even a small part of it then. In the last several years, I begin to understand, and like you, to feel that I am able to do those things sometimes.

It's a piece of writing that can be gone back to again and again, over decades, in my opinion, and still offer new insights. Thanks for the post.

And Daisybelle, the piece that you posted? I found that and printed it out a few days before the day my XAH moved out, back in 2015. It was a lifesaver for me too.

Thanks Honeypig, it's been a lifesaver for me too. x

We are all wounded people dealing with messy emotions in a confusing, uncertain, sometimes scary world.
That doesn’t give anyone the right to be mean, thoughtless, or disrespectful. But remembering this makes it a little easier to think,
‘I hope you heal from your pain’ instead of ‘I hope you hurt like you hurt me.’

That's a wonderful perspective, Daisy.

What you posted and this poem today reminds me of here, of recovery and of how sharing our "bits" of joy and goodness will somehow make the world a better place, I know that was I read that others here share, makes MY world a better place.

Today,
I want to pray
that tomorrow
I can share
with as many people
as possible,
as many bits
as possible
of that tremendously
amazing love
and that tremendously
amazing kindness
that was placed
in each of our hearts
the moment we were born.

Somehow I believe
that every time we share
one of these little bits,
something magical happens:
this small bit makes
a small change in this big world
a small change that may live on
for more than hundred years
beyond our own death
and who knows, well
into eternity...

many bits to share - hans van rostenberghe

Thank you Ann, if feels like my safe place here and if anyone can gain even the slightest bit of comfort from of our 'bits' of joy, then it makes it all worthwhile. Your lovely poem 'many bits to share' says it all. xx

Tonight I look at my past as being complete.
I say goodbye to all previous mistakes and misfortunes.
I now stand on the stage of a brand new experience!
I will keep the lessons learned as the jewels I carry with me on this new adventure.
Tomorrow will be the start of a fresh, new beginning.

When I think that I might never have found this place - what a wealth of hope & courage I'd have missed out on. I'm thankful for all the uplifting words & thoughts. I can come here any time of day or night for comfort & reassurance. Such a blessing.

It is a blessing indeed Hevyn. xx

You can be happy even if you had a painful past, and even if the future doesn’t go as planned.
Happiness is available right now, if you choose to stop clinging to anger, regret, and fear and appreciate what’s right in front of you.

I will keep the lessons learned as the jewels I carry with me on this new adventure.
More strangely wrapped gifts, but for the lessons and change of path I would not be in the wonderful place I am in today. Jewels indeed, precious and valuable gifts that don't weigh me down but lift me up in times of trouble.

Thanks Daisy, your words are precious too.

You don’t have to be positive all the time.
It’s perfectly okay to feel sad, angry, annoyed, frustrated, scared, or anxious. Having feelings doesn’t make you a ‘negative person.’ It makes you human.
