The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don't go back to sleep.

You must ask for what you really want.
Don't go back to sleep.

People are going back and forth across the doorsill
where the two worlds touch.

The door is round and open.
Don't go back to sleep.

From Essential Rumi

I first read that many years ago, and I have loved it ever since. Thanks, Ann.

Sometimes...

Sometimes there is a whisper
on the slightest wind
of birth...to begin again
The light that dances in the mind is
in transformation
refined

The wind asks only that we see her dance
and believe
The music she brings everywhere...is ours to rewrite
This is her gift of life...of hope...of agility of Spirit
dancing with Creator in the utter song of Love
the Journey to Light

Nothing that is worth doing can be achieved in our lifetime;
therefore, we must be saved by hope.

Nothing which is true or beautiful or good makes complete sense in any immediate context of history;
therefore, we must be saved by faith.

Nothing we do, however virtuous, could be accomplished alone;
therefore, we must be saved by love.

No virtuous act is quite as virtuous from the standpoint of our friend or foe as it is from our own standpoint;
therefore, we must be saved by the final form of love, which is forgiveness.

Some time ago, I was listening to public radio and the discussion was about a woman who was figuring out the language of (I think) dolphins, maybe some other creature. She'd been working for years and years on this. The commentators, who all sounded very young (1 woman, 2 men), were talking about how, after all these years, the researcher had learned what seemed like very little, at least to them. One remarked that if she'd learned only this much in X number of years, what was the best she could hope for in her lifetime? To know how to say "hi, how are you?" in Dolphin?

I wanted to reach through the radio and shake him and say "others will build on what SHE learns, just as she has built on what OTHERS learned, you whippersnapper!" The people we revere for their great contributions to science weren't working in a vacuum, making their theories out of whole cloth--they were following in the footsteps of others, sometimes (many times?) standing on the shoulders of giants, to get where they got to.

I don't plant a tree for myself, I plant it for the next generation, and the next. I think too many of us have forgotten that.

I'll hold 'em, you slap 'em, HP. Teamwork!

I agree with every word you said, to learn one thing, one single thing, may lead to two things which may lead to four things...it's how we learn anything.

I have heard the whales. It was a music as much as a language of words, I would love to understand more.

Sounds Of Nature

~John F. Malomo

When the day becomes the night and the moon begins to glow,
The ocean waves will sing a song nobody knows.

As the mountains peak up high and the trees begin to shake,
No one will know the song that the trees will make.

When the night returns to day and the sun emits its rays,
Along comes the powerful acoustic gravity waves.

There is music in the air. Mother Nature brings it here,
Finding its way to a nature loving ear.

Let Go

~Fourcedow

"Let go," He says. "Let go."
But my heart is stubborn, so I do not let go.
"What if it hurts?" I say.
"I know it will hurt," He says.
"What if I fall?" I say louder.
"I know you will fall," He says.
"But what if I can't get up?
What if I can't go on?
What if my heart breaks into a thousand pieces?"
"It's all right; just let go."
"No. I can't. I want to, but I can't."
"Let go."
"How? My heart will break. It is breaking already."
"So it will break. Let go."
"I can't. It hurts."
"Don't you know, my child?
If you fall, I will pick you up.
If you can't go on, I will carry you.
Don't you know, my child? Don't you know?
It is when it breaks that I can make you whole again.
It is when it breaks that I can pick out these broken pieces that are hurting you.
It is when it breaks that you can truly learn to love.
You can rise again.
You will rise again.
Let go."

A Gift To Share

~Alora M. Knight

I was given a smile the other day
From someone who passed me on their way.
I wasn't sure what I should do.
Perhaps, I'll leave it up to you.

If I should keep it for myself,
Put it on the kitchen shelf.
Then it would be a certainty
To bring some happiness to me.

Somehow that doesn't feel just right
For me to keep it in my sight
When there were others who might need
A waft of warmth, oh yes indeed.

It doesn't take so very much,
A cheerful smile, a gentle touch,
To lift the cloud another bears,
To help them feel somebody cares.

There is one thing we all should know.
A smile is like the candle's glow.
No matter how many candles share
That light, its fullness still is there.

So when I go out on the street,
No matter whom I chance to meet,
If I share with them my precious smile,
Do you think that will be worthwhile?

For hopefully, they too, will understand
That a smile is like a helping hand.
I'm hoping that you will agree
And someday share a smile with me.

May your walking be easy, on dry land or snow.
May the good Lord walk with you, wherever you go.
May your troubles brush off, like a sprinkling of dust,
And may you stand strong, for what is good, what is just.

May your soul be always grateful, may joy fill your heart.
May you reach out to others, with love, from the start.
May friendships bring blessing, for you, every day.
And may you be a blessing to those on your way.

This is from my treasures but I think it has been a long time since I last posted it. I really like this train of thought.

The Invitation

By Oriah Mountain Dreamer

It doesn't interest me
what you do for a living.
I want to know
what you ache for
and if you dare to dream
of meeting your heart's longing.

It doesn't interest me
how old you are.
I want to know
if you will risk
looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesnt interest me
what planets are
squaring your moon...
I want to know
if you have touched
the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened
by life's betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.

I want to know
if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.

I want to know
if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you
to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us
to be careful
to be realistic
to remember the limitations
of being human.

It doesn't interest me
if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear
the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.

I want to know
if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
"Yes."

It doesn't interest me
to know where you live
or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.

It doesn't interest me
who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me
where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know
what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.

I want to know
if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like
the company you keep
in the empty moments.

Let go of fear
and rest in that which is.
For peace, like love,
comes to those who allow it.

Let go of fear
and rest in stillness.
Watch the breath rise...
and fall.

Watch the tide rise...
and fall.
Watch towers rise...
and fall.

Watch walls rise...
and fall.
Watch statues rise...
and fall.

Watch empires rise...
and fall.
Watch the breath rise...
and fall.

Let go of fear
and rest in the arms
of the One
who has always held you,
the One who holds
atoms and empires
and oceans and stars.

Let go of fear
and watch what happens next.

rise and fall - larry robinson
