Well it wasn't so much out of kind-hearted "good deed for the day." It was kinda his job - he happened to be the doc from the practice who was on call for the hospital that day. Anytime a patient from their practice gets admitted, they get notified. They rotate the duty around, and whoever is on call goes to make the rounds.

I've been in the hospital many times, and have probably seen almost every one of the seven or eight from the practice at some point.

Fate, as it were, arranged that meeting.
