I like this list of principles...

Thou shalt not steal.
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Those shalt not lie.
Thou shalt not commit murder.
Play fair.
Be nice.
Never forget a debt; always forgive a debtor.
A stitch in time saves nine.
Love thy neighbor as thy self.
Love thy God as thy self.
Be tolerant of your friends' and neighbors' faults and weaknesses.
Look for the best in others, not the worst.
Never miss the opportunity to do someone a kindness; always skip the opportunity to be unkind and cause someone pain.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Be compassionate.
Honesty is the best policy.
Accept your self and others

Take no prisoners.

Natural to want to add on, I think. Hope you don't mind.

Five 08-01-2006 02:51 AM

paulmh 08-01-2006 02:53 AM

What goes around, comes around.

You can't BS a BSer (from Dad).

Take time to smell the roses (also from Dad).

Patience is a virtue.

It hurts to be beautiful (from Mom, while making me sleep in prickly hair rollers).

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

A friend in need is a friend indeed.

You are what you eat.

Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil.

(Now there's a toughie.)

minnie 08-01-2006 02:59 AM

always forgive a debtor
Really? Why?

A friend in need is a friend indeed
A friend in need is a trigger for my rescuing tendencies. Have to be careful with that one.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
For me, everything else flows from this principle.

Little pitchers have big ears.

Speak softly and carry a big stick.

Lol Minnie. And sometimes it isn't about just need either, but using.

If all else fails, paint it black. (mine)

Autumn 08-01-2006 03:07 AM

Hehe.

Don't judge a book by its cover.

All boys have skid marks. (also mine)

Time is of the essence (whaddaya think about that, Eq?)

A little nonsense now and then is cherished by the wisest men. (Willy Wonka)

I can't format my little list and I need to go. I'll leave you with some Taoist wisdom though.

Do not walk behind me because I cannot lead
Do not walk in front of me, because I cannot be led.
Neither walk by my side.
Just **** off and leave me alone.

Practice what you preach.

Five 08-01-2006 04:01 AM

Good things come to those who wait.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

If the shoe fits, wear it.
