But what do I know?
I know Alera.........I was feeling like a trouble-maker yesterday. Sorry.
I live in a very conservative part of the country, but luckily in a large city that is pretty diverse.
Imagine how boring it would be if we were all the same?!

I have trouble with the word "liberal" it smacks of something being wrong in the first place.....a bit like "tolerate"...thanks Alera that set me off thinking...I don't feel I'm liberal because I treat people as equal and what is tolerance, it feels like judgement...any takers on this please?

PS: I am refering to Windy's post about us all being people so what's the problem.....thanks Windy.

The USA was founded on Classical Liberalism.
And yes, at the time, it was RADICAL!
(Not that you'd know it today from the right wingers speechifying.
The Us vs Them ideologies are always going to be with us too, I'm afraid. It's human nature. Take a 3-6 month old child who gets to screaming when they see an unfamiliar face -- not mom or dad, that is. Fear of the "other" I believe is an internal, instinctual, maybe genetic, protection factor of humans.
But, education can liberate us from that.
And help us tolerate and celebrate diversity.
Just my two cents, for whatever its worth.
Shalom!

Well, now you've got me thinking too indigo!
Tolerate -- like "to but up with" -- even though you don't like it. I guess we all have to do that everyday on some levels.
Liberal: Here are some definitions I found on the web.
- broad: showing or characterized by broad-mindedness; "a broad political stance"; "generous and broad sympathies"; "a liberal newspaper"; "tolerant of his opponent's opinions"
- having political or social views favoring reform and progress
- tolerant of change; not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or tradition
- a person who favors a political philosophy of progress and reform and the protection of civil liberties
- Giving or generous, or broad minded, tolerant of other ideals, nontraditional.
- Traditionally, the word liberal means to be open to new ideas and tolerant of others. To be liberal politically, is to emphasize political and economic freedom. They tend to favor gradual changes in society and promote government programs to solve problems.
The definitions I found of Tolerant aren't bad either. I'm okay with it now. But you've really got me thinking girl!
Tolerant:
- permissiveness: a disposition to allow freedom of choice and behavior
- willingness to recognize and respect the beliefs or practices of others

Homophobia online really sucks! I just got slapped in the face with the most moronic ridiculousness on the other recovery sight. By refering to "sucking rocks" on an ongoing story thread, what I really meant was oral sex...at least according to the monitor. I will not be back in the village, needless to say, not when everything I say is scrutinized on that level.
