Tatsy,
we all know you can do it.
the question is:do you want to and will you?

and youíre certainly not letting anyone down, so donít bother adding that one to the list of your shortcomings, cause it ainít so

yes! hydrate! snack some! take care of pets! post some! go sit outside a bit!

The thing to remember about tapers is the motivation - you're drinking to stave off withdrawal, not to get drunk or even get a buzz.

I could never taper worth a damn, I was always in the second camp.

Alcoholics generally over estimate the amount of alcohol we need to stave off withdrawal - even for an all day drinker I doubt it's anywhere near 3 bottles Tatsy.

I'm not a doctor - if your own doctor hasn't given you any guidelines or you;re not comfortable in seeing him/her try and google some NHS guidelines maybe?

My heartfelt thanks to everybody ❤️

It’s clear my reluctance to stop, despite an opposing overwhelming desire to do so; is fuelled by fear. My fear of an uncertain future, post adverse life changing events. My fear that I don’t possess the ability to cope presently, nor the future capability to deal with the fallout. And my fear that no positive progress is possible, that there’s no tangible light at the end of the black tunnel, to stoically work towards.

So I’ve made a choice, to set fear aside, and to try anyway, by acting hopeful, despite feeling hopeless.

I will replace this FEAR with : Face Everything (with) Action (and hopefully) Rise.

“Every difficulty in life presents us with an opportunity to turn inward and to invoke our own submerged inner resources. The trials we endure can and should introduce us to our strengths.” – Epictetus

Today is the penultimate day: Fear Chapter.

Tomorrow is Day 1: Hope Chapter.

Ok, tomorrow it is. What's the plan for today? (I know you told us yesterday, just wondering if it's been modified.)

Funny that stoicism should come up. This note has been on my desktop for at least a year:

Good = wise, temperate, courageous and just
Evil = act shamefully toward self or others

You're a good one, Ms Tats. Shedding the blanket of booze might be scary, but it will let your real self out. The one who is courageous and determined to do hard things.

Thank you O, I do hope I am. I used wine for a cross-world quantitive purpose, unit wise. But I actually tapered using a yucky warm lager poison, as a withdrawal medicine. So it’s the equivalent of half a bottle of wine/3 cans warm lager today, only when required.

I have one can left for tomorrow, but as Dee said, we overestimate how much is required to stave off the w/ds. I don’t plan on drinking it tomorrow. I want to, symbolically, pour it down the sink! It will run directly through to the septic-tank, where it belongs......thereby bypassing the usual passage through the toilet after transiting and poisoning my poor body and mind! No more!

Day 1: Hope and Action

I get the symbolism Tatsy- but why not pour it down the sink before you go to bed tonight? As the marker that tomorrow will be day one, no chances.

Glad you are at this point- it IS terrifying to imagine what life will be like sober. But making that leap is the best thing I have ever done.

way to go, Tatsy!
no need for terror...you have told us you had contented sobriety for quite a while. so you know it is a “place”you can be.
got some concrete plans for short-term next few hours and days and then how do you see yourself going forward?
perfect that you chucked it instead of “saving”it.

Hi Tats and Dropsie! Ima little late getting my engine started this morning but a strong cuppa joe will soon fix that. Sorry I missed you O but perhaps we can meet here this afternoon for a little tea?

Today I an inside with the very elderly cat Tasha on a pillow on my recliner.
She was very neglected when I was in full blown alcoholism and though I can't make up the time I can love and cuddle her lots from now on.

I realize that's my micro lesson today: I cannot change my past actions but I can choose wisely in the moment and each moment forward. . .

It's a beautiful sunny August morning and the birds are positively belting their songs like feathered Ethel Mermens.

Happy Day 1 Tatsy! How are you feeling so far?
Stay close today and reach out if you are stressed or struggling.
Dropsie, if you feel like sharing here so we can support you and give you endless cups of virtual caffeine, please do. We are in this together.

Keep going, Tatsy!! As many people reminded me, this can be your last day 1 ever. Make it that way! I needed to spend my last day 1 under the covers, counting the seconds until day 2. That way I could just get day 1 in the books safely.

Do WHATEVER you need to do. Donít look down the whole mountain and worry how youíll get down it. Just look at the little patch of snow in front of you. You can do this!

True that. And when it comes down to it, all I can do is choose wisely in the moment now. I don't need to fret over all of the moments forward because I'll deal with those moments when they become now.

Same from me, Dropsie. I'm happy to have tea with you at Tatsy's and/or you're welcome to come next door to my place.

How was your day, Tats?
