Going to try SMART this Friday

I was going to try AA but then I remembered the whole religious aspect and, as a staunch atheist, I knew that wouldn't work for me.

I'm really nervous but at the same time it'll be really helpful to have some local support. I shall report back afterwards and let you guys know how it went.

SMART should receive more page space here, Goth. Please let us know how it goes. Hope it suits!

I've heard good things about SMART Goth.
Best wishes - update when you can :)

Hi Goth,

You can also try LifeRing, it they have meetings in your area. No higher power stuff, just mutual support for sobriety.

Thanks everyone. I'll look into that Fluffer. Am in the UK so not sure what services we have. I know there is a local support group as well as SMART and AA meetings so I'm going to try different things and see how I get on.

Day 3!

I tried SMART last Wednesday, it was good!

I hope it works out for you!

Awesome! Definitely no god talk in smart. All science based which is really nice.

I am not sure I can pin it down, I think they were just receptive to some of the reasons I do not like AA meetings too much. The facilitator rationalised whether I should quit AA or keep attending in a way I had thought about but never had someone else tell me.

Did you get the workbook? I found it so helpful. Love the approach too and the "crosstalk allowed"

It would be beneficial to know how you got on there, i´´m flying to the UK end of next week and i´m also looking for an alternative to AA.
Unfortunately there are no English speaking secular meetings in southern Spain where i live, i can only tolerate may be one AA meeting a month, but any more and i start pulling my hair out!
