Who am I talking to? i am reading the RR book and paying much more attention to the conversations in my head. I am usually able to identify my AV as "it" and not "me". However, I've noticed, too, that sometimes I will say things to myself like, "You can do this" or "You are in control." Who am I talking to when I say that? Is it me and I just need to change the "you" to "I"? Or is it that sneaking AV trying to make me feel like it is on my side for now? Who is you? |
I like to think I'm talking to "Myself", the higher part of me calling the shots. No need to over think it if it's working for you. |
"You can do this" or "You are in control" I'm sure you are wording to yourself as "I can do this" or "I am in control" correct? and if so, sure why not you are, not "it" |
Reread.....yes change it to "I" I would.. |
Hope you are enjoying RR and learning what to do...succeed! The I/you thoughts are not that important, you know what you are doing, so keep doing the right thing. |
Thanks for the responses. I think it's me saying those things, but it could be my low self-esteem these days that keeps me from using the first person response. It will be a good exercise for me to change from you to I. I was just afraid it was my AV working in my head, saying yes I agree with what you're doing, until I don't. Yeah, overthinking and thinking and thinking and thinking...:-) |
I think it's important to remember that it's ALL you. Every voice in my head is mine; I'm not possessed. I found it kind of helpful to think of it like the old cartoons with the devil on one shoulder and the angel on the other. We battle with ourselves. The most important part is that we are mindful of our inner voices so we don't operate on autopilot and just do whatever some part of our brain tells us. |
