Yes, but that doesn't completely solve it. This is going to be quick.

The bicycles in question are a deck of Bicycle brand playing cards. He was in a game and was caught cheating, hence the extra card, and his fellow players killed him.

He cheated at solitaire and god smote him. (Of course this was pre-microsoft when one used paper-like "cards" and I hear-tell some decks had bicycles emblazoned on them). Having lost 18 games straight, dude was getting a bit anxious. Not a cheater by nature (more of a recluse actually), dude said eff-it and borrowed an ace from another deck and as soon as it hit the formica it was dude-no-more. Moral? eff-it is a deadly game.

I must have gotten lucky because I'm only okay with riddles and I don't play cards so I'm not sure where the leap came from.

Thanks for the original post.

I can remember asking:

Was he run over by the bicycles?
Did he steal the bicycles?
Was he buying a bicycle?

Ha ha, anyway, I've actually got another one, but it's fairly common. I'll hold off till later. Besides, all our brains are probably fried from all this heavy thinking.

I am kind of jealous that you figured out a way to use smote in a thread.

There once was a Brainiac Dude
Solved Riddles that others eschewed
His answer, quite haute
Was surely not rote
Left others all screwed and Tattooed
