Thanks TS for the encouragement. I suppose I may be addicted to tapering There IS a method to the prolonged nic taper. Most vapers lay down the pen after 6 months to a year w/out much effort and naturally drop their nic levels. Having been one of those that has quit CT many times over the years only to smoke again, the naturalness(?) organicability(?) of this method appeals to me. The biggest plus is mindfulness of all the body/mind changes. I'm aware of the slow change and value it. Again, my biggest hurdle has been caffeine. I don't metabolize it like I used to and am none too pleased with that. Coffee has long been a top-tier food group for me and doing it WITH smoking was a 40 yr. habit. So anyhoo, I'm backing out of the hole the same way I went in--slowly-- as I believe it will be sustainable as tapering from alcohol was 9+ months ago (and the damage MUCH less from WD's). Just my take but hey, this is my rodeo and the ride has been smooth.

D-day is Wednesday for nicotine and I am ready. Have been pleasantly surprised that I don't really crave the nic but do enjoy the many flavors vaping has to offer. I'm down to only 2.5 ml of liquid at about 4mg daily and have had not really fought any urges to do more.

2 cups coffee this morning and all is well. My vaping is holding at 4mg but a slight urge to procure a bottle of 0 nic juice is rumbling (I can always use the extra for the wife's redux) in my belly. I will prolly peruse the shops today for auld lang syne (whatever TF that is/was) and brag some more of my lack of need for their product. We have 4 vape-shops in a 4 mile radius all competing for the same 100 or so folks that vape here in mayberry so I can always find a salesperson that will give me a deal in exchange for my breaking up their monotony. Gonna go dust off the treadmill now and enter a new phase. See yuns!

I have a 4 yr. old in tow and her legs are so short I don't want to show her up or give her a complex. Seriously though, I can get away with 20 min. jaunts on the mill if Sophia the First is on (her fave) but otherwise, till preschool starts I don't let her out of my sight. Planning to do the 100 burpee-a-day workout---will have to get them in early.

On my third cup of coffee and actually thought about a cigarette, not my vape pen (odd since I haven't "smoked" in awhile). Not giving in on the nic---already have on the caffeine. Will pay for that later with early fatigue. Good thing I didn't plan a marathon or anything too taxing. Nicotine is me no more. Period!

I caved...The anger and rage that built just scared me. Irrational thoughts...So puffed on a little 4% and mixed everything I have to a 2.5 and will try again in 3 days with no caffeine. So tomorrow i cup period. The next day zero and sat. will be zero of everything. I knew there was a severe caffeine/nicotine correlation (polyaddiction?) going on with me but underestimated how bad it was.

I guess I really don't want to give up especially the caffeine right now. I'll gear up for another attack on both when I'm readier.

Coffee In The News

How Coffee can help the Liver is a recurring Story that's popped back up into the News recently. I don't present this as any authoritative Paper on the topic, but it casually covers what it now known.

I'm drinking my first strong Cuppa as I type this.-)

Coffee Lowers Liver Cancer Risk

First cup of mornin' joe in a while--seems my excursion to the underworld (drinking) supplanted my jones for caffeine. I traded back. I'm gonna stay at one cup today--it's really plenty as strong as I make it. No alcohol today so I gotta start "liking" water. I have 2 lawns to mow today and still feel a it dehydrated from the last month in solvent --I only had taperingly-few yesterday. The nic is steady at 4% but I've gone back to smoking one upon wakening. Actually, I do little of either when I'm in this shape. The Up side? No booze today, less caffeine and not-so-much nic either. Things ARE looking ...better.
And thanks Mesa Man , sorry I missed your post. I actually used this data to justify my over-indulgence of coffee since I came across this info some 5 yrs ago. It may very well have helped me as I have so far beat HCV for 16 yrs and drank heavy for at least half of those.

Hello! Just read through your journey since I was last here and I have to let you know how much I admire your determination and the not quitting quitting attitude you seem to have.
Congratulations on learning more about yourself, I'm still stuck with my caffeine and nicotine habits at the moment, I'm into month 20 with no booze which was such a big problem (BP) resolved by the formation of my big plan (BP) so I'm learning lots about myself and how my addictions affect me and my life, trying to change the altered pathways in my head is a hard job so I make sure to take plenty of time for relaxation. Thought you might like to know that it seems Hubby doesn't have those addictive pathways in his brain as he is still free from nicotine, booze and caffeine after quitting all 3 substances cold turkey at different points over the past few years.... I have recently got hold of a copy of Alan Carrs easy way to stop smoking and intend to read it with a view to making another attempt at quitting the nic in the winter. I do struggle with this time of year being my favourite time for socialising which used to mean the beer garden but is now taken with studying but doesn't affect stable levels of nic. Anyway I'm waffling, this is about you and your life.... How's thing going today Anattaboy?
Did you make a BP?
Any update appreciated, hope things are well with you

Driving my wagon of hope through beautiful views on my road to myself
