I read the book years ago,, giving it another go.

I think i bought this book more that five years ago, read it followed through , was sober for quite some time and then fell back into old habits. Ive been turning the house upside down to find it, and could not. Ive taken the AVRT crash course online, and can totally relate. Ive obviously already be recognizing this AV in my head for the past two week ( sober yay!) Was pretty strong a few days ago and almost gave in to it. I recognize it now, and basically told it to shut the H**L up. Could almost see it retreating into the darkness. Felt damn good. I think this is more my style. I know after much though, that AA is not for me. It may work for some ,but ive tried it, and it doesn not work for me. I can identify with AVRT make more sense. So far so good, when the AV rears its ugly head , i cant wait to tell it exactly where to go. Bout time.

Not sure which book we be talking bout here? If you are talking about RR The New Cure, make sure you take a look at the AVRT discussion thread in this forum. It's a very good resource. There is no index but google can help you look for keywords.

It was called "Rational Recovery" the new cure for substance addiction 1996.

I highly recommend these two threads which are on this forum. I've included the links for convenience.

"Received" thank you so much for that .. Excellent read .. Makes so much more sense to me .. AVRT" I can relate to the AV in my head.. When it speaks , I tell it exactly where to go. for me there is no " one day at a time" only forever.. As in "I quit drinking" forever .. The end.

Thanks

I had a dream about my Addictive voice/Addiction

I dreamed that I was feeling bad and pulled this red monster like thing out of me and it had teeth and was horrible! And I thought "How do I kill it?" and it came to me "You don't, you learn how to live with it".

I woke up shaken and thought "Oh my gosh, the monster was in the shape of a brainstem", which is where my addictive urges come from. So since I need my brainstem to live (yuck, yuck), I will have to learn to live with and overcome that addictive urge/voice.

So yes, I am using the techniques taught in this book as well. Let's keep in touch! :lmao
