It's ok recieved don't worry. Unfortunately with my illness a stupid little cold makes me ill far longer than most. Last time I had flu I was really ill for 3 months. The flu had gone well before that but the effects last a bit.

I'm ok honestly, just having to deal with it.

You know the last time I had flu it took me a long time to recover, at that time I was dosing myself with alcohol to deal with the pain, even the tiredness was easier when I drowned things out with alcohol. My illness sucked so I decided to drink until I didn't have any issue anymore.

What I have now is an unpleasant cold, which unfortunately has resulted in a chest infection. My doctor has given me antibiotics as there is too much liquid on my chest to ignore. So I'm dealing with this now and sadly my annoying illness basically magnifies any tiny condition into a major thing. It's really annoying and I can't say how long this will last. My chest is really gurgling but the antibiotics will take care of it.

I've had some tests to look at my immune system because that's a standard thing if I get too unwell. I really don't want to give too much away but my condition involves my immune system (not HIV/AIDS if anyone is interested). Still the doctors pay close attention because my immune systems is a big part of things.

I'll keep you guys updated. Hoping the antibiotics will kill whatever is in my lungs.

I'm so glad you went to the doctor. Having an untreated respiratory infection, under the best circumstances, is not a good thing.

Thanks for updating.

That sucks! A buddy of mine has a very severe autoimmune ailment that's really hard on him. So many things aggravate it. Nothing to mess with, for sure. Take care of yourself.

Hey guys, I am recovering but it'll just take a while. Again I'm coming to the reality that part of my drinking was dealing with this nonsense. A tiny little cold makes me awfully ill, just another case of my self medicating to deal with it.

The pain meds really do help me cope with my drinking urges, without them I am sure I'd just be back in a bottle about now.

Just my opinion but you probably shouldnt be taking pain pills as a coping mechanism. Your an alcoholic? Your an addict. Your just trading one substance for another. I'm an addict too. There are way better coping mechanisms. Good luck.

Unless I'm misunderstanding, Davey takes pain pills for pain. A useful side effect is that he is less likely to drink.

He says:

It was just my opinion. Sorry.

I can see how you would misunderstand without context. One of the big reasons I was drinking was to self medicate a rather painful health condition. Since I started taking pain meds for it I was finally able to kick the bottle. My pain meds are tightly controlled by a specialist clinic and I told them repeatedly about my fear of becoming addicted to them so my dosage will not be considered for an increase for a long time.

I understand. I certainly wasn't judging. I was just offering my opinion to what you wrote. I'm sorry for the misunderstand.

Oh hey no worries, you were obviously concerned because the way I put it, without context, seems very worrying. My condition means that sadly the pain will increase with time and they will have to up the dose simply for me to function without awful pain, but they will be controlled doses rather than me wrecking my liver, heart, brain etc with alcohol. At some point I may even end up on steroids to reduce inflammation but hopefully that's a long time in the future.

Happy to say I'm feeling a lot better, still not at my usual level, my usual level being less than a healthy person, but still recovering nicely from this nasty bug. I think another week and i'll be back to normal.

Still on the sober path but increasingly worried about christmas and new year.

Sure glad you're finally feeling better, Davey. Not sure what to tell you about the holidays except to say for myself I have absolutely no concerns that I will drink because I know I won't. Not on the holidays, nor at any other time. I'm done with all that crazy and have been ever since I made my BP.

Hope you continue to improve.

I know what you mean, I absolutely don't intend to drink but I find it very scary if that makes any sense. Still maybe the fact it scares me is a good sign because it means I'm on my guard, maybe not being scared of it would be a bad thing. It's my first year after going this long sober so I guess being worried is pretty standard. Once I make it through this christmas and new year the next one will no doubt be easier

I agree. I'm pretty confident in my sobriety but a little bit of fear is probably healthy. There's a lot to lose if we stumble and land in a bottle.

It seems this stomach bug isn't done wih me guys. Just threw up and now have a full on headache. On the upside I'm not alone, several family members are having the same issue. It seems to be a thing that comes and goes in waves. Going to try and attempt some sleep now.

Bloody annoying such a thing can fool you into thinking you're ok and then boom, ill again -.-

I'm feeling better again although I'm a little nervous about saying I am well again after the fact I felt ok then got hit badly by this stupid bug. Still I haven't thrown up recently, dont' feel sick, don't feel dizzy and no stomach pains.

So fingers crossed I've kicked this nasty little bug in time for christmas.

I felt better yesterday but now I feel awful again. I keep switching between feeling really hot and sweating every bit of fluid I have out of me and then feeling freezing and still sweating. My stomach hurts, I've been sick a few more times (no blood don't worry) and generally feel like my immune system is against me.

Emergency appointment with my doctors tomorrow. I think maybe my stomach hasn't quite recovered.

I should say all my family had this but it's hitting me pretty hard. My sister in law ended up with antibiotics as well.

I told my doctor the symptoms and the fact my family had the same thing, my sister in law being better after antibiotics and so he decided I should have some as well. He originally thought it might be norovirus so antibiotics would be useless but as my sister in law recovered he said I should have a full course. He also gave me some stuff to help with the terrible amount of stomach acid. So hopefully I'll feel better in a few days because I'm pretty tired of throwing up and feeling sick. I've actually lost nearly 6 lbs in weight as I can't keep food down.

Hoping I'll feel better before christmas as my brother does a restaurant quality christmas meal and I don't want to miss out
