Doing Some Math

Ok So I'm doing well at the moment, staying sober again and looking forward. Today I went to draw some money from my bank and realised the balance was much higher than usual. In the last 6 months I've only slipped up a couple of times with the drink, the rest of the time has been sober and I intend to stay that way.

Financial reasons are not the best to stay sober, actually they're the least important I think but it's a nice bonus so I decided to do some maths.
I worked out on average I spend about 1950 a year on alcohol. That's a huge amount of money! I cannot believe it, no wonder my bank account looks so much healthier.

Again I know this is a minor reason to stay sober, but still it's something extra to remember. I've been spending nearly 2k a year on what is essentially a poison. I've increased my use gradually over the last 10 years but working it out I've probably spent 14,000 pounds on booze in 10 years. That's half the deposit for a house!

Yeah, I would always pay cash for liquor so my wife wouldn't see the daily stops on the credit card statement. My ATM withdrawals are down from 2 a week to 1 a month.

And Davey, factor in any time off work, paracetemol or whatever to treat the hangovers, whatever extra you drank/ate to ease the hangovers.

Well due to disability I can't work, but you're absolutely right about the food. I usually eat quite well despite the alcohol, but on the bad nights when I've downed 2 bottles of wine I have reached for the phone and ordered the usual expensive junk. I hate to think how much that cost me.
