My answer to that almost a year ago was that I realized I was addicted to alcohol and I was tired ,body and soul ,of it and I was literally nearing the end of my rope, it was a very dark place, one I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Today my answer is that I decided not to. I'm sober , I want to be . My liberation came from realizing I have the control over sobriety, I always did I just let myself forget that for too long, I will always remember that now.

There are many differences between then and now, but they all stem from one constant, I don't drink because I choose not to.

I will not drink today because I do not drink and I will not change my mind. Looking back on almost 9 months alcohol free, this experience has been very up and down. I look forward to a time where it's consistently freeing with much fewer challenges.

If I drink and nothing goes seriously wrong I'll feel like it's not the big deal I was making it and will drink again and then again, and only stop after something horrible happens. Same old cycle

I won't drug today because I can vividly remember the dirty feeling of having opiate painkillers in my hands yesterday and the oh-so-sweet relief this morning when I remembered that I did not take any of them!
