OT: Your favorite emotional songs of all time

Hmm, for me...I'd say: Send in the Clowns, Some Enchanted Evening, anything from Phantom of the Opera, lots of Sarah Mclachlan songs and Your Song by Elton John. How about you?

I like Opera arias. Heres one of my favorites, from Purcell's Opera Dido and Aneas.

Wow Katie, those are some of my favorites too! Some other older songs that get to me ALL the time: West Side Story's "Somewhere" and "Maria"; Jon Denver's "Annies song" and "Feels Like a Woman" (this song makes me cry all the time!). Most recently, "Defying Gravity" from the musical Wicked (awesome, totally totally awesome stage production!)
Thanks for posting this OT thread!

Zen, back in the early 70's a few of my buds (beatles fans), formed a "club"; Harrison was our "GOD"; I created t-shirts for our "club", and single-handedly hand-embroidered the OM symbol on 6-7 t's (he had it on his album covers), we wore them at our "gatherings" while listening to beatles music... guess this is dating me, lol! good times, good memories.

Wow, I must be really old! I do know the Sarah songs are the newest of the bunch. I still remember Elton as a teenager (who burned down the hill by accident) when I was 13 or so listening to "Your Song." I could have that "old people syndrome," but I swear to God music was MUCH better back then. Oh - as was the world - before corruption, selling secrets to the Chinese (in spite of the fact I love Bill Clinton), the ensuing fascist regime following this (yes - never really knowing how close we were to losing it all and in light of torture!). In short, there used to be an easier and simpler way of life, and I do believe this is true. :)

and cos we mentioned George - my favourite Harrison song

But, y'all have to admit, don't you just love my political commentary through the ages? Whilst we discuss music, as the two really are interwoven, to certain degrees, we can still address current affairs. I'd challenge anyone to not say this is so. Look at the late 60s and 70s (late 60s my fave - a time of enligtenment and music that reflected this). Then the 80s - the me generation - I am sure you'll all come up with stuff to exemplify this. By the 90s I was spent, save a few artists. Now in 2009 - I go back to Moody Blues (listening to right now) and all the other good stuff. I've dropped out, so to speak, as I know we have someone at the helm who is brilliant. I've done my part. I fought through the last eight years like a nutcase to shine the light. Now I plan to just kick back and listen to some 60s/70s music. Sigh. :)

Love this song:
YouTube - Manafest - Impossible

This guy grew up with an abusive alcoholic and kinda raps his story through all his songs. And this is not rap, rap, it's like.. .. just good rap. Okay? I swear it won't hurt you.

Rock rap... it's tight. Reminds me of a few other bands. Wish I could pull off something like that on karaoke, lol...

Edit - And you got me listenin' to religious music... that was sneaky and underhanded, OMDK...

I had no problem with the rap!
