Motivational Interviewing is a good secular alternative.

When I was last attending Addiction Disorder Studies classes in preparation for my addiction treatment specialist certification (C.A.T.S) Motivational Interviewing (MI) was the text book of choice. Here's an overview of MI. Take a look and see what its about. I believe its a great guide to use when helping others with an addiction disorder.

I really like that and it helped me to look at some of my behaviors at times...knowing and doing are often a long ways apart (hug)
