SMART recovery?

So.. what is Smart recovery? I don't know anything about it nor have I really heard anything about it... anybody willing to explain? :)

Welcome to SMART Recovery!

this is a good place for info.

I like it, it helped me a lot.

JustAYak 04-15-2009 01:41 PM

Okay.. so has anyone here done this program?

shockozulu 04-15-2009 02:05 PM

I work SMART Recovery and love it. It really helps me with issues related to my addiction and over time has helped me deal as other life issues as well.

I have gone to some meetings and use there publications a lot. I think the principles really work and you will meet people with recovery both at the meetings and on their on-line meetings. good stuff..

Can I find SMART meetings in the UK?

Fubarcdn 04-16-2009 02:13 PM

Kooks.
Go to smartrecovery.org and there will be a link to meetings. Look for UK and click on it. It appears there are several UK meetings but I didn't see one for Scotland.

lol, are you going to try it?

I used to go to therapy and my therapist was
cognitive based, so it was a great addition to
what I was already doing.

JustAYak 04-16-2009 05:54 PM

I haven't decided yet.

shockozulu 04-17-2009 01:17 AM

If you have ever been to one of the Saturday Chat meetings I host here at SR, you have been exposed to SMART Recovery. I base the meetings here on the tools I found useful in SMART.

JustAYak 04-17-2009 04:16 PM

I've been too a few, thanks alera.

JustAYak 04-19-2009 09:51 AM

I'm going to a smart meeting today.. it's a little over an hour away so it will not be something I can go too often but I want to see what it's like anyways. Hope I like it.

I've been interested in attending a SMART meeting for some time. I too would have to drive for about 70 or 80 min to get there. Maybe more time knowing how notoriously clogged the freeway's are around the Los Angles area. Couple that with driving http://www.mazeguy.net/transport/car.gif anxiety http://www.mazeguy.net/silly/crazy.gif and its not likely to happen. Still the SMART program literature has helped me immeasurably. Let http://www.mazeguy.net/happy/wave.gif me know how the meeting goes if you will.

I've been to SMART and have found it to be great. It's based on REBT and there are no labels to apply, etc. If you have SMART meetings in your area, you might enjoy checking one out. I've gone to them here and can't say anything bad about them at all.
