don't Bam...its not gonna get better going back.

It's tough - we all drank for a reason (or ten) but hang in there - staying sober really is the only way out of the mess

hugs

I am such an occasional visitor here but when I come I really love the connection with all of you. Sounds like some tough stuff going on for some of us.
Bam - thanks for casting the net to get us all to check in.

Sounds like we are weathering the bumps with each other .

I'm with DK on the "dry drunk" note..
Good to be with all of you.. Doing OK here - not real up and not real down - just somewhere in the middle which is OK with me!

That's okay...I've been close to relapsing lately...it's not unreasonable for you to have thought I did based upon my previous posts...

I wasn't exactly clear in my posting...gee, I've been doing that A LOT lately.

73 days today. Woo hoo! A little pat on the back for me...just a little (I feel a bit weird about doing that...like I'm going to jinx myself...I know, that's completely irrational...).

I just wish I could have a cigarette right NOW. I gave those up, too.

I'm okay most of the time with that one, but some days.....I really want one...just one.

I might take you up on that.

I prefer the term "phantom drunk".

Believe me, it's okay. It's my fault for not being clear.

That's hilarious. I didn't push it, had my homework in her mailbox before she left work, which is sorta the default rule. Put it this way: there's a very stern warning in her syllabus about the fact that deadlines are concrete and unyielding in the real world and will be concrete and unyielding in her class. But we have had three assignments now and she has given extensions on all of them.

Besides, today she told us that she had to leave class early because she was supposed to have an article reviewed in November and the journal editor emailed her this morning and asked if she was still planning on reviewing it. *Cough cough* I sure hate those concrete and unyielding deadlines.

Really, this would be a random sort of discussion except that as I type I am comparing myself now to myself last semester when I was either too hungover to show up to class, or as often as not, would show up high because I couldn't afford to skip more. Sure, I blew off a homework assignment for an evening out. I challenge you to find a grad student who hasn't, and I still got the homework done in a reasonably timely fashion. Last semester I would have skipped it, gotten drunk, driven to the City, bought some meth, grabbed some beer on the way home, and partied the night away, probably skipping class entirely the next morning and turning in a pathetic excuse for homework three days late. In that light a couple hours past a flexible deadline doesn't seem so bad.

I am proud of myself. I really have turned a corner.

Finally have my own computer back...

Recap of computer hell:

Buy a computer on Craig's List for a back up.

Noisy CPU fan goes out on my computer.

Set up spare computer.

GF's computer, which has had issues for a while, dies.

Bought replacement fan from Newegg and install.

Plug computer in at tower to test fan, neglecting to shut off power strip or power supply.

Pop, flash, smoke...

Bought used motherboard and power supply and rebuilt computer with a lot of help from a guy I met on Craig's List, using the best parts from the 2 fried computers.

Back in business.

Well played, DK!

I took myself on a field trip into the city today. I needed to get out of my head and navigating the NYC subway system is a great way to get grounded in the moment... cause if you don't pay attention you could wind up gob knows where. I ate tacos in the East Village, people watched, walked my arse off, and brought back a whole cheesecake from Junior's in Grand Central Station. I only got a little bit lost, too! *pats self on back* I feel so much better.

Well done on the filed trip SS, that is a good idea to get out of your own head for a while.

Me, I am doing lots of housework today. For the last two nights I have had major drinking dreams, blech.

It is good to be sober again after my lil blip.

Funny you should mention drinking dreams, stone. I had one last night. I even recall noting that I had just screwed up my sober time...and I was smiling about it! Oh, yeah...and I was in a casino! Bad news! At least it wasn't real.

ugh....here comes another long day.

Drinking dreams are driving me crazy at the moment, they are always the same, Im getting ready for a really glamourous night out and then enjoying a wild, fun time with lots of people.

So not buying cheap vodka from the local shop and eating chips on the sofa in a darkened room then, lol, which of course is the reality.

Hi everyone. Just checking in. I loved NYC, SS! I live in Houston and although its a huge diverse city and theres ton of stuff to do it just doesnt seem as exciting as NYC.

Today I'm going to fill out job and volunteer applications. And tomorrow I'm going to go to a Gaza demonstration in the evening with a friend.
