Cbt?

Can anyone recommend some good CBT books or info on the net please? Specific to alcoholism would be best ;)

I would like a book that isn't too academic that Icould get some ideas and techniques from.

Not on the net, but "Under the influence " is a great read.
There's snippets of it here at SR somewhere.

I just looked through half a dozen pages of this forum and I couldn't find anything. People here - when it was an "alternative to AA" forum - were mainly into SMART recovery and do it yourself. There was a guy called Five who used to mention cbt practice as part of his daily defences against drink, and I've looked through his posts - up to a point - and I can find nothing.

I googled "cbt, alcoholism, recovery" as I'm sure you have, and found lots of stuff, including stuff under "self-help Cognitive Behaviour Therapy" and Rational Behaviour Therapy. I know a little about these theoretically - I've read some of it - but nothing at all experientially - I haven't practiced it.

Maybe someone with more experience will post

For some good information about what CBT is and how it is set up to work, see:
http://www.nacbt.org/whatiscbt.htm
For a self help approach, here's a book that may be helpful.

I cannot speak to the worth of the book, but, it was based from the first link, and that was decent infomation. Hope it helps! :e058:

Shalom!

Hi Alera, I hadn't looked into smart recovery but they do seem to use CBT after a quick scan of the website. I will look into it!
Thanks for the recommendation too.
