I have a question about meetings
I went to meetings the day I hit bottom. I should say I went BACK to meetings the day I hit bottom.
AA/NA meetings don't keep me clean and sober. What they do is show me what I can do to stay clean and sober by people that are staying clean and sober.
I go to meetings because it is difficult to solve a problem with the same mind that created it - I've never really been good at accurate self assessments. I don't share but the basic problem, then I listen to how other people have dealt with it. Then I choose what I think will work for me - honestly work for me, not help me avoid it or get off easy - but to find a real solution.
Someone once said "Meetings are an archipelago of sanity in a lunatic sea."
Yep.
As far as all the prayers and God references go, I simply translate the concepts into my own terms, into the framework of my own understanding.
You don't have to talk. You can simply listen.
