Concerned
Concerned
I have a loved one that is a recovering addict. This loved one is also a nurse and is around narcotics everyday. I'm concerned this would be a constant temptation. Am I wrong or should I believe them when they say they have no cravings? I feel the chances of relapse would be so high. Just feeling concerned for them.
Anyone would be concerned. But whether they are being honest with you (and themselves) or not, there is nothing your concern can do to prevent a relapse. You've let them know. The rest is on them. Best not to let this take up too much real estate in your mind.
All you can do is be there for them as long as it's not drawing you into an unhealthy situation.
A good friend of mine is a Nurse Jackie. She would inject herself with dilaudid (hydromorphone) at work until she got caught. It's a real thing. The good news if she loses her license nurses have an excellent program for sobriety if they want to get their license back.
