Interested to know what, for example, you'd tell someone who said the most they can do right now is cut back on drinking?

Addictions addiction - dont settle for second best man!

D
I would tell them that instead of just cutting back, try AA or a rehab center! That’s just the thing! As far as I know there are no nicotine anonymous meetings or treatment centers to get off nicotine!

Holy cow Dee! Thanks! I didn’t know there were nicotine anonymous meetings! Thanks! Not blaming anyone for using tobacco again! I started using as far as I know because of the stress of the job and feelings of boredom and loneliness! It’s all on me! It’s up to me to get out of his mess!

Day 4.

Going to kick this forum off again.

Smoking sucks. Come join me.

If not, I'll have an entire forum to myself. Where I talk to myself about how grateful I am to have stopped smoking. Don't want to be the pariah any longer. Want to walk down the street smelling like a rose. 🌹

I'm depressed, and I'm anxious, but it's all part of it, I guess.

I'll join you here, Steely! Day 6. I'm depressed and anxious too. How about we think what's awful about smoking?
  • Stained teeth!
  • Risk of lung and throat cancer and stroke!
  • Bad for skin!

Thanks Dee.

And thanks Klio for joining me on the forum.

And the money too, Klio.

I'm going to calculate how much I spend on tobacco and save it. Seeing it build might give further motivation.

Nowadays I find myself avoiding little babies in strollers. They have lungs big as a walnut, and don't want to expose them to cigarette smoke. I hate kids seeing me smoke.

Congrats on Day 6 Klio. We're doing it!

Tiny yay. Lol

I've become hysterical, just thought about changing my user name to Tiny Yay.

Day 7. We're definitely doing it, Steely! Honestly, if it wasn't for SR and accoutability here, I don't think I would be. Thanks for joining me! Good idea to set aside saved money. Tiny yay, I love it! 🙂

Day 5

Hanging for a cigarette, hanging for something, which (really) isn't a cigarette, it's me, feeling the absence of my crutch. Guess I'll just have to limp for a while.

Have to meet with my daughter's doctor and mental health team today, and these meetings are always fraught. She is going to protest the medication and Community Treatment Order (CTO) and my heart breaks for her, because I hate them too.

Want for her to be autonomous, but without the medication she becomes really unwell. She'll have cigarettes on her and I've got to resist.

Got my handy fake cigarette on hand, which I guess in real terms you could describe as a pacifier, and which here, we call dummies. It's a stupid white plastic stick! lol

What's a girl to do?

Don't smoke, no matter what.

Congrats on 7 days Klio. You've cracked the week.

Onwards we push.

Your old mate Steely. Aka Tiny Yay. And if I knew how to change font size I would. It would be the tiniest Yay in the world.

Thanks, you're all very sweet. I'm in a real danger zone of picking up tonight. Can't stop crying, procrastinating on a deadline. Everything feels so heavy.

it takes time to learn to deal with stress without smoking. Exercise, even just a quick burst, helps me blow out the cobwebs a little?

Thanks Koala 🐨 Just got to keep playing the tape..... I know I will be bitterly disappointed if I pick up. It'll all start over again, and I can't stand it anymore. I want to smell the fresh air 🌺, not the stench of tobacco.

Oh Klio, I know how you feel. The heavy weight, the procrastinating on a deadline because head so caught up in everything other than the real focus of maintaining our resolve. It's so easy to cave, to rationalise, to justify. You can meet the deadline without smoking Klio. You can. It mightn't be your best work, but it will be a deadline met.

I'm at risk today too Klio, my daughter has just txt wanting to have coffee before meeting with her doctors. I agreed to do so, but know she will have tobacco on her and the temptation and risk is real.

To get through this one will be a challenge Klio, but if I do, I know it will strengthen me for tomorrow, and the next day. This is my whacky racer brain talking. See how I go in the field.

Let's try and make it through just this day, just this night Klio. Tomorrow will be a better day.

No pressure

One day Tiny Yay will roar, "I DID IT!" 🦁 lol
