new beginnings
WS, I am inspired by your progress. Today is my first day of not smoking. It's been several hours since the last one and am fighting cravings but do not want to get any more. I've got to make this stick. I am tired of being short of breath and spending money I can't afford to spend.
Keep me in your prayers.

Interesting: 6 years ago today, 2/21/2013, was my first post in nicotine/cigarette forum. I know I have tried seriously twice since and I'm sure a lot of sputters.
Today is the 2 nd day sick...congestion, crud, tiredness.

Wiscsober, what tools did you use to quit smoking. I want to I try go a few days without them and then back on.
I want to try again starting the 23rd my birthday. But can't figure out tools I need to keep handy. I have read a lot keep trying them but with no success.
Don't want to try Chantix etc very scared as I am going through a separation, worry about Chantix side effects.
Any advice?

Had to keep food in the house, not just sugar and junk. Also I drink lite drink mixes with sugar free soda. I'm diabetic too.
I made a list and shared here and on Facebook:
1. Dislike being in bondage to nicotine and smoking behaviors.
2. Don’t want to be around negative people who also smoke.
3. Want to save money.
4. Don’t like the smell on my clothes and hearing people commenting on it.
5. Want to live finally without alcohol, cigarettes, illicit drugs.
6. Help to manage the diabetes, high blood pressure, and mental health.
7. Save for trips to see sons.
8. Don’t want to pick through ashtrays salvaging used butts.
9. I focus and concentrate better when not smoking.
My first hour is a new routine without cigarettes:
0430 Wake up and snooze to alarms.
Sit on edge of bed and pet cat.
Open bedroom window blinds.
By 0500 open LR and KT blinds
Turn on stove light
Drink a cup of liquid.
Turn on computer
Go to restroom
Wash hands
Brush teeth
Give cat dry food, water, wet food.
Pull on pants, sweatshirt, shoes,
Get coffee mug and wallet
Go downstairs and make a cup of coffee with cream
Associate with anyone in café area.
Tell anyone I see I’m not smoking
Come back to apartment.
Making sure I eat three meals a day....Use HALT acronym don't smoke or make any rash decision if I'm hungry, angry, lonely, or tired.
Been using soberrecovery.com 24 hour check-in threads and posting each day on nicotine thread. Telling everyone.
On www.whyquit.com I watch videos and use a quit meter and post the results on SR and FB.
Tell anyone and everyone I've quit for how long. There are ALOT of people who have quit also and are supportive.
Take my mental health meds as prescribed.
Maybe too much, but I nap and sleep a lot.
know that urges don't last and feel good about what I'm doing.
So much more, you can do this too! PM other members and compliment them.
