Checking in on day 15! Sorry I haven't been here to check in with you, OneofYou. I really stayed off the internet almost completely while I was on vacation, and have been busy since I got back. Chantix really seems to have made a difference for me this time quitting. I had a terrible time with nicotine replacement therapies. I felt terrible no matter what I tried - patches, lozenges, vaping. I think I figured out that I didn't inhale that deeply while smoking, so the dosage on the replacements was higher and more concentrated than what I was getting smoking.

Chantix works differently. It plays with the nicotine receptors in your brain, so that you basically get no pleasure from the nicotine when you smoke. After a couple of weeks of being on it, I would smoke, and wonder just exactly why I was even bothering. That gave me just the push I needed. It took the pleasure away and just left me with the bad things about smoking.

15 days is wonderful, you must begin to feel a lot better!!!

I've quit 2 years and 8 months ago and I still have craving once in awhile.
I'm always surprised how powerful my smoking AV can be.

Nicotine is a powerful drug similar to opiates like heroin.
Anyone beating this addiction deserves all our respect.

Day 19 now, and really not experiencing much in the way of cravings. A twinge now and then, easily dismissed. My boyfriend told me yesterday how happy and proud he is that I'm quitting. He has never been a smoker, and has really wanted me to quit for the whole time we've been together (on and off for about 9 years now). I have quit for short periods of time during the past 9 or so years, once for almost 2 years!! This time feels different. I'm more ready than ever to really stay quit.

OK I passed the one-month mark last night! Oddly, I had my strongest cravings yet. I had a really extra super stressful day at work AND in my personal life. So now I know without a doubt that stress is my trigger for wanting to smoke. I had ice cream instead.

Just checked my quit smoking app - 1 month, 13 days, 16 hours.
Most of the time I don't even think about smoking now. Every once in a while I get a really strong craving, like yesterday, after a brutal day at work, driving home, stressed, hungry, very tired. Saw a lady standing on her front porch smoking. It looked like the perfect thing to be doing right then. It was hard to not turn the car around and go to the gas station to buy cigarettes. But I kept going, had a snack and a glass of water while sitting with my feet up safe at home, and the feeling passed quickly. HALT (Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired and/or Thirsty) worked for me for alcohol cravings early on, and it is working for cigarette cravings now.

Day 45 now. Had some rough times over the weekend. Work and home are both very busy and stressful right now. If I can make it through this stretch, I'll feel pretty confident going forward.

I'm always amazed by someone kicking out cigarette from their life.
My doctor told me quitting smoking was very similar to stopping opiates : a very hard task.
I guess there are longer gaps in time between cravings at 45 days?
And these cravings don't last long anymore?

Thanks! 47 days smoke free now. I just realized I haven't even thought about smoking for a couple of days now. I'm very busy, and that would usually lead me to wanting a "break" to go outside and smoke, but I think having gotten through a very rough week last week may have been the turning point for me. And it sure is nice to have my breathing improve so much already.

2 Months!! I feel great. Hardly ever think about smoking now, and if I do, it's just "wow, I'm glad I don't do that anymore."

Keep up the good work mld! Quitting those cigs is so hard to do for many people! I quit 20 years ago. I thought I could do it cold turkey until I started getting those nicotine fits! Thought I was going to die! Then I drove up to a drugstore in desperation to buy nicotine gum! The nicotine gum helped tremendously! I also went to the gym a lot for workouts to help relieve the stress and help clear out my lungs! I’m also a big sugar free gum chewer that helps me a lot with quitting cigarettes. I had finally kicked that darn cigarette habit and it’s been 20 years smoke free! Unfortunately I picked up another nicotine habit a few months ago! Smokeless tobacco! I started dipping tobacco and sorry I even started! I already tried to quit! Almost impossible for me to quit! Especially since I have that oral fixation from chewing gum all these years! All I can do for now is slow it down! I currently do 3 dips a day! A tin can lasts me about 3 days! In between dips I chew gum and also use tobacco free pouches! Some don’t have nicotine! Some do! I use both in between dips so I don’t dip tobacco so much! That’s just where I’m at and I’m hoping one day I can kick this nasty smokeless tobacco habit!
