[wiscgirl30]. Great big hug. I can't believe I'm the first on this thread to do that. Have hugs gone out of style?

Every AA member once was where you are now, scared spitless, afraid to go to a meeting for fear of.... many things, varies with the individual. Everyone there went to their first meeting once. None of us wanted to be there. No one wakes up one morning and says "It's a beautiful day, I think I'll join AA!"

Here's the promises, from the Big Book of AA, page 83-84:

We will be amazed before we are halfway through. We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness. We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it. We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace. No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others. That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear. We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows. Self-seeking will slip away. Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change. Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us. We will intuitively know how to handle situations that used to baffle us. We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.

Are these extravagant promises? We think not. They are being fulfilled among us - sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. They will always materialize if we work for them. (endquote.)

I went to a meeting once in Appleton, Wisconsin. Nice friendly people. No one bit me.

Get your butt to AA, your mind will eventually follow. I've been sober over 17 1/2 years. I have fun! Remember, I'm pulling for you. We're all in this together.
