Getting Started
I have been caught in this downward spiral for the past 20 years. That I have not imploded yet must only mean that God had a special plan for me to survive. I have a lovely family- loving wife and three kids - that I want to enjoy, look after and take care of. I also have my Mom, brothers and sisters who care about me, and I care about them. I am determined to survive.
I have tried the 12 step program twice, and on both counts I relapsed after about 100 day. I am afraid to get onto anti-alcohol drugs. But I have a lot to live for and now want to put this behind me.
If I have failed to get on the wagon with a live 12 step program, will this online chat help me at all ?
Full of Hope,
La Isla Bonita.
Welcome! I'm glad you found us.
And, yes, I think this message board can help you. It's been a lifeline for me and I've been here a long time. There is lots of information and support. Take a look around and see what we have to offer.

I have heard from more than one person that when they feel that urge to do their DOC that they will come on SR and start chatting and posting and they get so wrapped up in this place and get such support and encouragement that they forget that they wanted something in the first place. I forget about my husband's addiction when I am here becasue I can help others who need it as well. SR will definately take your mind off of things for a while. When you are feeling down come on and talk for a while and for me helping others gives me so much pleasure and I feel so much better about myself and I forget that I have a mountain of problems of my own. Welcome to SR and stick around and post and read and recover!
Wasn't La Isla Bonita also part of a song years ago? I can just barely hear parts of it in my head. Now I will be racking my brain trying to remember that song.

I was in AA 5 years before I earned a 1 year medallion!
So I know you can keep trying and win!
Blessings to you and your family...

I had begun to type a response to you and it disappeared....
Yes, Madonna recorded the song in 1986.
For me it means a lot. I am (or I want my soul to be where) the beautiful island, in a sea of addiction, where the sun (love) touches the sky (my family). I relate to the song.
