Anyone able to kick a serious heroin habit for a substancial amount of time and still be able to smoke pot or drink occasionally? or is it all or nothing?

yea...

i usually do.
i was never a big drinker until i quit smack.
than i drank like a fish.
and when im drunk is usally when i pick up the needle.
and then i quit drinking.
for my true seducer....
its hard to face the truth sometimes,
but then maybe easier to live life once it has been faced.
....

I think you just answered your own question.

Regardless of what our DOC is, if we pick up something else that alters us, lowers our defenses, we are usually on the path back to that DOC. My sponsor is a heroin addict who got clean in AA. It worked for her because she knew that if she drank, she'd be right back to dope, therefore, she deems herself just as powerless over alcohol as heroin.

Facing my issues head on was the only way I could begin to recover.

Peace & Love,
Sugah

I believe your answer is in your question, as my guess is that the "substantial" time periods between shooting dope are becoming shorter and shorter. I appreciate your sharing about the use of other drugs leading you back to your drug-of-choice. Remember: judgement becomes impaired with the very first drink or drug...

Another good question. Let me ask you this: would you rather have all of your life ahead of you to be enjoyed and well-lived, or would you prefer the daily misery of active addiction, which offers you nothing but a progressively increasing sense of discomfort?

You'll find your answers...

I mean really,......smoke pot? Drink? OCCASIONALLY??? Since when were you able to use a substance,.....'just occasionally' anyway? Why would you go through what you went through getting off HEROIN and even consider taking another drug????
