This Weekend

This weekend is the first sober weekend I can remember in....well it is the first sober weekend I can remember in a long long time.

The worst part is the lonliness. All my friends are still using and it's tempting to sit around with them while they do that. So I don't...and then the boredom kicks in.

It makes me realize how much I could have done different. I never thought I'd be the person that had a hard time stopping. I'm ashamed of it. And I don't have any sober friends. It's just really really lonely.

Congratulations on a very tough decision. It's very hard being the only sober one at a gathering. For me, I try to just watch my friends as an objective outsider, and I wonder to myself how I REALLY act when I am drinking with them. Sometimes it's an eye-opening experience to realize how stupid and obnoxious the alcohol and/or drugs can make you. And then waking up the next day with no hangover is a nice reward. Hang in there- It can be lonely, but your true friends will support you.

Well, look at it like this. I stayed on drinking and using for nearly 30 yrs.

YOU have your whole life.

Yes, it's a change.

For me, AA saved my life.

I have tons of sober friends, and hang at sober events.

You will be happier in the long run.

CONGRATS on your courage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you stick around, and get involved in some sort of formal program.

Tom

It is lonely at first, but that passes and you make new real friends. The "friends" you had were not really friends as they were only there when using, not because they cared about you. Go to a meeting, go to church, go for a walk, go for coffee and say hi to someone, it is all going to get better, just have faith that you are on the right track. T
