Hi all,
I am new to this board.My husband is addicted to painkillers and tranquilizers. Altho he was prescribed these things for a real pain, I know he is abusing them now. He has been on them for years, the pain meds anyway.
I know this goes against things, but do u think it would do any good to call his dr. and talk to him about this. I am so worried. He also drinks some when he can't get anymore as he gets these meds on a monthly basis and they last him about a week. Pulling my hair out, as he becomes very depressed when he doesn't have them. Help pleeze.

How is he getting his doctor to keep prescribing them?

He tells him he is still in pain from the surgery he had last year. The psychiatrist gives him ativan in however many he wants... ugh!

That really disgusts me how doctors can be so reckless. Especially since there has been so much in the press about abuse of pain killers.

Personally, I would not call his doctor unless he knows you really well. I would talk seriously with your husband. He will not change or get help unless he wants to. It has to start there. Good luck!
