Humility out the door! The formerly Max Oblivia has 30 days!

Ok, I know what your thinking there goes that Max again blowing his horn.
Oh yea I was a big talker 6 weeks ago when I came to this site. I have been humbled by my own weakness and the kindness of strangers who are now my friends. I wont name you because its all of you here. All of you who offer encouragement to people who tomorrow could drink themselves to OBLIVIA.
Its a thankless kindness you offer with dissapointment as part of the fuel for your motor.
As you have encouraged me I am offering my encouragement to all of you.
Congratulations because without the gentle push and opinions unbiased and non-judgemental advice some of us fragile glasses might break.
So now Soberus Maxus the formerly Max Obivia will serenade you with a famous Maxus Poem.
A long day of work and a trip to the fridge
A cold beer, another, another
A little guilt a little shame
Could you slow down even a smidge
How many trips in a lifetime you make
Your health, Your friends, Your family
You know what Im going to say
Can I keep going before, It all break
One day to the computor I came
Here at SR the people they know
the loneliness, the despair
Now I wont be the same
Some of us here were walking the planks
How can we now, with friends
Sober Recovery
For you
I give------------Thanks

MAX

Max we are blessed to have you here
We are so glad you put down the beer

You have given us a joy in life
Like a kid flying a kite

You have given hope to a lot
We are not a glum lot

We have seen you grow so far
It is almost faster than a porsche car

I remember when you first got here
You have became so very dear

Thanks for sharing your life with us
now get your ass on my damn bus

Love Vic

Wow,MAX!!!

I am so incredibly happy that you have 30 days sober! I've also loved sharing my own early sobriety with you.

Max

I had over 5 years coming in here. I get something from the person coming in for the first time to the person with the most sobriety.

I do the same thing day after day week after week

Is not being lax
about giving up the booze
and foregoing the schmooze
He's picking up the pieces
And working on that thesis
Called life
If you ever want me to write another poem
That's ok as long as you don't
'show em'
that my poetry is really bad
But as long as I'm not drinking
That won't make me sad.

Heh Heh - what a rotten poem. C'mon board guys and gals - see if you can do worse )

I'll try one too. Usually I write poetry when I'm drinking so it may be hard to get the juices flowing.

Spent too many nights laughin' and drinkin'
and too many mornings cryin' and thinkin'.

Don't want to move, just stay in my bed
there's too much crap floatin' 'round my head.

Blamed God for my miserable horrible life
Was a terrible mom and a cranky wife.

I found SR and my life started changing
There's so much to do, lot's of rearranging.

Meetings, and posts, and calls to new friends
Prove that my life is not at an end.

It's only a start to a better life
of a happy "clean" mommy and a loving wife.

Have a wonderful day, Max. You inspired me to try to write a poem sober and I did it. Now I'm crying with happiness. Thank you. Congrats on 30 days!! I'm following you (day 6).

Max,

Wooo Hooo ... something to party about 1st thing in the morning!

Thanks I needed that!

What can I say, you are a poet! Even without that poem, your words themselves are pure poetry.

Congratulations on your 30 days! ****{Big Smile}}}}

And....another Group Hug!!!!

LOOK OUT!!! MARCHING BAND COMING THROUGH!!!

Yes...I'm shouting it to the rooftops!!! Max has 30 Days Sober!?! And, they said it couldn't be done!!!

There once was a Max quite Oblivious
Until he got Truly Serious...
He gave up the booze,
Saying, "What can I lose?"
Now, he's happy and Soberly Delirious!!!

It must be contagious...sober poetry writing!!!

Omedetou Gozaimasu!!

Dude, it's so cool on your 30 days. I remember when you first came here, you thought it would be 30 days and you'd be done--maybe even go back to drinking. Well, what are your thoughts on that now?

Well done and keep it up.

I threw my life up to chance
as the demon and I began to dance.
He held me close, he held me tight
he completely blocked all the world's light.
He whispered the things I wanted to hear
he made me feel loved yet kindled my fear.
I wanted one dance but he filled my card
He made it look easy when life was too hard
He lied, he cheated, he ripped out my heart
and he made me believe we could never part.
He acted kind but was jealous and cold
he consumed my mind and made my soul old.
He told me I was beautiful, wonderful, and true
he took all of me and he can take you.
To dance with the demon is to forever roam
to never find peace or find your way home.
Now I can see where I went wrong
I am the one who started the song!

The demon in this poem is the drugs that controlled my life for so long!!

What creative people us boozers are! I know everyone has there contribution to this world otherwise what would we be doing here? But us alkies suppress so much for so long and part of that (I think) is the creativity that drives us crazy and part of the reason we drink in the first place. Just always been curious how much of the drinking is escape and how much is quieting a bored busy brain.
Winelover who knew? Who knew you could do it and so wonderfully!!
All of you are my motivation, yesterday was the worst day of all I had the devil on my shoulder. My friend called and said 30 days ready for a couple cocktails? I said I think I'll have a glass of wine. He didnt hear me and the conversation swept past what I said. Then my wife brought me dinner. Pasta in red sauce. My mind wanted wine. Somehow I came here my safe place. Then my daughter showed up. I showed her what I had been up to here and said "Why dont I write a poem" so she sat with me while we started this thread. I showed her what I had been up to and about all of you.
She said there all so nice and encouraging! I showed her my post where she asked me what I would be doing when I was 65 or 70 and I didnt have the nerve to tell her I didnt think I would live that long on my present course.
My wife and I were talking about the age of one of our dogs we said we hoped he would live to be 14. She said I was gona live to 94. I said what do you mean? She said if you keep up with the changes you can live that long.
This living thing is a whole new concept for me I had planned carefully my demise and tried to kill myself for so long. I thought about suicide almost everyday. Holy smokes I just realized I dont remember the last time. Neat!!
I think I will set a new goal MR Scott 60 days, thats 30 more one day at a time.
Max the sober one.

Aye, Captain. I think in thirty more days I have the shields fixed and we can set course for the sobriety nebula, but it will always be at the same pace you mentioned above. I guess the fun's in the journey. You drive for now, I have to go to bed.

Take care all.

Sorry I won't be around to see you celebrate your 25th Year of sobriety, Max...but, I'll be watching all of you from that Big AA Meeting in the sky. Reminds me of an old AA joke, if I can remember it. I think it goes something like this:

Some guy in AA was asking if there was an AA meeting in Heaven...he was told, "I have good news, and I have bad news. There, is indeed, an AA meeting in Heaven...that's the good news. The bad news is you are the next speaker."

I think it lost a bit in translation...but, you get the idea.

Scotty snuck in while I was posting...May The Force be with you both!!!

Congratulations!

I've been looking in on you, Max (and the rest of you HATZ folks, too )! So this thread has given me the biggest smile!! And the fact that you sat down at the 'puter with your daughter and shared all this while starting it? That is SO cool. Brings a tear to the eye.

Indisputable evidence that y'all are not a "glum lot", this.

Have a super day!
