Cravings & Urges - how do you cope with them?

Coping techniques when you have the urge to use.

Found this... some good suggestions on it and I wanted to share it.

It even has a Reminder Card format. They will charge you to send you theirs but you're on a computer... no reason you can't make one of your own tailored specifically to you. Just a good idea I thought.

What else do you guys use to get you through a rough spot?

I go back to basics and pick up the tools I have learned and practiced in AA:

* Call my sponsor or someone in recovery
* Get to a meeting ASAP and share about it
* Pray / meditate - sometimes the only thing between me and a drink or drug is my HP
* Journal - write about what;'s going on
* Pick up the Big Book and flip to any page and read - the answers are always there, go figure!
* Read and post here on SR!
* Am I Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired (HALT)?
* Exercise or walk the dogs - get out of the house and out of my head

Great thread, Suga.

1st and for most I don't act on impulsive, obsessive, compulsive behaviour. I don't pick up

They say that there are five things that we must do...

1. DON'T DRINK OR USE NO MATTER WHAT
2. Go to Meetings
3. Get and Use a Sponsor
4. Read the Basic Text or Big Book (anything recovery related)
5. Work the STEPS

They say that if we just keep it that simple that we should be OK....I like this saying personally it has helped me a lot "You can't save your face and your ass at the same time!"

Love Vic

Phinneas Great thread, Suga.
