welcome tawny, yes insomnia is normal, I didnt sleep much the first month I was sober, I think it depends on the person on how long the insomnia lasts, There is tons of information in the stickies. This is a great place for information and support. I am sure there will be others who know more then me but anyway welcome to SR.

Welcome,
I too was really worried about how I was going to sleep. My body didn't know how to shut down unless I poured alcohol into it (unless it was an afternoon nap, and then I told myself I had to drink more that night because I wouldn't be able to sleep because of the nap--bizzare the ways the mind works when clouded).
Anyway, I quit drinking 26 nights ago. The first 4-5 nights were a bit topsy-turvy, but after that I've been getting the best sleep I've had in decades. Give it time--it's worth it. I love being able to remember my dreams again.
Stay away from the caffine and drink lots of water.
Take care.
