Just got back from the doctor...

I just returned from the doctor. Last week at a clinic I was told I had liver disfunction, and today I went to the hospital to get checked out. I had an ultrasound on my liver and I was told I have chirosis. Luckily, the doctor said if I continue to not drink it should get better. I asked him if I needed medication and he said no, which is significant because Japanese doctors almost always prescribe medicine (they get kick-backs from the drug companies). So, today was a pretty good day in the grand scheme of things. I hope all are have a good day as well.

Take care.

GREAT NEWS, BMUS! It's always good to be able to share something somewhat positive...it gives the rest of us hope that things actually do get better!

Thanks for the update..

I am reminded of the saying...

"Time heals all wounds"

In this case let's modify to

"Sobriety and time heals"

Hugs and Blessings...

More than a bit ironc!! When I went to the interview for the job (which I was offered and subsequently had to get the health check--which led to me admitting the alcoholism) I wore new shoes and got a HUGE blister on my heel. I can hear Nelson from The Simpsons: "HA, HA".

Scotty

Thanks for keeping us in your loop. You are in ours! Healing the liver is very profound, both physically as well as emotionally. You might find it interesting to reseaerch the Traditional Chinese Medicine approach/viewpoint of the organs. It is the seat of our strongest (unexpressed un processed) emotions, as well as the organ with the most (more than 100) functions. Its another miracle that yours will regeneate as your whole life regenerates!

You inspire me.

Thanks for sharing. It's a valuable eye-opener. I hope you keep getting better.

I was lucky. Booze didn't do any serious harm before I stopped. Your story is still valuable and precious to me because plenty of people with long-term sobriety who slip and then come back share that they didn't pick up where they left off...

They didn't pick up where they left off...

***They pick up as though they hadn't stopped!!!***

The disease continued to progress even though they weren't drinking.

I've been sober over seventeen years. I think if I slipped and didn't find my way back (most don't) I'd have cirrhosis pretty quick. I think I'd probably die.

Remember, I'm pulling for you. We're all in this together.

Sorry to hear about the bit of bad news, Beam. The cirrhosis is partially reversible. There's a point though, where it becomes irreversible...you still have a chance by staying stopped.

Hang In There!!
