New here

I have been reading the boards off and on for a few days now, and really like the support that people get from this board. So here goes....

I am a mom of 3, in my 30's, and know I have a problem with alcohol. While my husband works in the basement at night, I get drunk upstairs. He has no clue. Actually, no one does. I usually do this 2-4x's a week.

I have been trying to stop now for a long time. But have never told anyone this or opened up to anyone. That is why I did an internet search so I could get some online support since I know I am not into going to meetings. A very nice person from this board recommended a great recovery book for me, and I ordered it today. I am excited for it to arrive!

Thanks for reading:)

Stick around

Thanks for posting and sharing your story. Many of us are/were closet drinkers. It has been my experience; however, that eventually, as my disease progressed, it became obvious to everyone, but me, that I was drinking too much.

I'm glad you ordered a book. We also need each other to stay sober. I can't, we can.

Good luck on your beginning journey to sobriety. My prayers are with you.

Morning penguin! and welcome to SR!
You will find wonderful support here , and great friendship.
I live alone, and while not a closet drinker as such, I hid my drinking from my friends and collegues, but , as has been said , I THOUGHT I did lol.

I wish you all the best luck for your continued recovery

Hi Penguinloves,

Welcome here! Many others will be along...

Some will no doubt recommend AA, which is much less frightening than it may seem from your position. I don't know what book you have ordered, but if it works, be sure to share it here.

Another place you may want to look for help: www.SMARTRecovery.org

Sober Recovery has been a lifesaver for me.

Hugs,

Hey Penguin,
Welcome! It's great that you are at a place that you realise that you have a problem...some people never get there, so well done, it's an excellent start!
Which book did you buy? If you don't feel up to meetings for now (best gift I ever gave myself) can I recommend you buy the big book of alcoholics anonymous...it is packed full of amazing insights and stories and lessons you can get it on amazon or online.
Great to have you here!

 How are you feeling today?

Be sure and drink a lot of water to flush out the toxins.

Blessings....
