dependance or addiction???

In my opinion there is a diff. I now depend on meds just to function
phisically. Nothing extrordinary just get by
I cant work in this shape. However when I took lots and lots of hydrocodone
I could work. I dont think that by taking this i have injured my brain
and I read somewhere that liver damage could accure not from the
narcotic in the drug but the accetamenophen therewith, but the danger
is in the amount I thought I was taking too much of it approx 40K mg
a day but they said danger occurs with long term use of above 2 grams
a day. dont quote me on quantities but would like to know if this
is accurate.

as for as addiction, when you stop at nothing to attain the drug
such as pawn, deal, steel ect...... then that is addiction to me.

any input, feedback, or opinions are welcome

thanks

after everything we've been through I still can't say that I totally under stand the difference between addiction dependency and habit forming. I do know that my husbands counselor and physiatrist refer to my husband as addicted and an alcoholic. but no he never resorted to stealing or any other illegal activity to support either. and he has kept his job through it all (although his employer is pretty understanding and has put up with more than some would have)

Individuals are different someone else my have used pain meds in the same amounts as my husband and never had a problem. according to a book we read the percntage of people getting addicted to pain meds is low. and they do have a place in the med field. but I believe mostly for short term pain.

I hope you are doing well today and find some answers to your situation.

Oh another angle is that my husband has good insurance and a dr willing to write prescriptions w/o keeping track of my husbands usage. Matter of fact there is no doubt in our minds that after all this he could go back into that dr and say "I hurt give my some hydro" and the dr would! the thing that should have alerted me to a problem was a couple times I went to pick up his presciption and the ins rejected it because it was too soon. so I just paid for it as it wasn't particularly expensive. I have no idea how many time that happened to my husband.

and yes it's the acetaminophen that is really hard on the liver. HIs dr did switch him to the other base when his usage got pretty high.
