Hi There, Im new here and I was researching the whole sniffing comet thing because I do it. I started sniffing industrial comet while pregnant eventhough my doctor said it was harmless to my child, well it's gotten worse. I now do it everyday as much as I can and cant stop. I like how it makes my throat feel but what worries me is that now I get extremly painful headaches that I never got before...Just wanted people out there to know that such thing does exist.

Welcome to SR Shortie831!

By "sniffing Comet," do you mean smelling it or are you actually snorting the powder up your nose? This makes a huge difference.

Hi and welcome Shortie :)

I have heard of this before. It sounds pretty dangerous?

Have you considered seeing someone about this compulsion?

Sniffing

I found this thread because for the past month or two I’ve been sniffing comet and wanted to find out what it actually does to the body. I know it can’t be good. I saw people using comet on cleaning tiktok and when I used it I just loved the smell and started using it co clean everything I could. Then I started sniffing it randomly and looked for candles that smelled like it (couldn’t find any). Now when I sniff it I like to shake up the container so the smell is really strong and then take a deep breath in. I know it’s weird, and potentially harmful, but I have to admit it’s a relief to see that other people have done this. Very curious to know if anyone else who has posted here has stopped this bad habit or, if not, what may have happened as a result?

Hi and welcome aces :)

as you can see this is a pretty old thread so I’m not sure if anyone who posted about their problem is still here. Others may have relevant experience tho :)

I thought of the condition "Pica" too, people eating non-edibles. Stones, soap, etc. I think it is associated with OCD, as previously mentioned. People can become addicted to ANYTHING. If the kids have witnessed it, it's a given, imho.

Has anyone spoken to her about it? Might open the door to honest discussion, and ultimately, recovery. No shame.

I can only think that it is an exceptionally dangerous thing to do irrespective of mode of administration.

A job I once had saw an aboriginal child sniffing his own vomit after inhaling petrol fumes. :(

I'd be seeking seeking assistance over the phone from an organisation that specialises in addiction.

I wish her the best.

I have never sniffed comet, so I can't really offer any specific insight on that.

I don't know if you can relate to this or not, but I am an alcoholic and I have demonstrated illogical behavior in the pursuit of an activity that had distinct possibilities of having a negative outcome. Hell, at the end, I knew it was going to turn out poorly but I did it anyway.

Alcohol, in and of itself is neither good nor bad. It was my improper and over use of it that was bad. Alcohol was merely a symptom of a larger problem. I had to stop using alcohol before I could ever stand a chance to conquer the larger problem.

The good news is...I stopped drinking, so then I could work on the larger problem...and it is now in remission.

Please get help immediately. Comet is ABRASIVE!! That's how it cleans. Plus it has more than 100 chemicals, including formaldehyde, benzene and tuolene that are cancerous. I stopped using it even for cleaning because it is toxic to even breathe the fumes - I can't imagine what that is doing to the soft tissues in the nasal cavity and lungs. Please seek help immediately.

Hi there Aces. What you are doing seems extremely dangerous. Please don’t delay in taking action. I hope you stick around and continue to share.

Its really good you have found this forum and are reaching out for help.

It would be really wise to call your physician and get in for a checkup. Tell them what is happening in full detail. Please know that you are not alone and there are others who have dealt with this.

There are no benefits.

If you last that long, the powerful chemicals in Comet will aggressively kill your brain cells.

Before that, your sinuses, lungs, and throat will suffer serious damage, which means your heart is not far behind.

You need to find a way to stop.
