Hi charlie.... I started drinking when I was a teenager and I just turned 40 this week. I'm an evening/weekend drinker and I want to try to give it up. Finding something else to do with the times that I'd normally be sipping rum & cokes is the most difficult thing for me.

I'm on Day 1 again ... Had a few rum & cokes last night ... I think I need to "plan" better.

So, not sure how tonight is going to go. It's only 9:30 a.m. my time right now ... and I'm trying to work on a plan.

Congrats on getting to Day 3. Good luck to you!

Hi, my first post here was yesterday and I haven't drank since Tues so I think I know how you feel. People here are very supportive and I would suggest reading the stickies in the Alcoholism forum.
Anyway, be strong, be kind to yourself, you are not alone.

Hey Charlie, welcome.
It's a big shock taking our daily liquid allowance away
There's a good thread in the alcoholism forum, as stonerat points out.
'Quitting: What to expect.'
Have a read.

I have been drinking and drugging since I was about 11. It sucks in the beginning, but I know it will get better as long as I don't use. Get yourself to a meeting, they are great!

Welcome, instead of keep coming back i'm asking you to stay
ya know ? i'm clean and sober for 14 months and i still feel new to this life!
every day is a new day and every day i gotta work on not taking that first drink.
i say i went to a party when i was 14 and finally got the heck outta there at 38, what a rollercoaster of a ride! and just like getting off of a ride i'm all wobbley and disoriented and feeling sick, but it gets better i'm here to tell you. it gets easier and it so worth the fight. Take each moment as it comes, don't worry about tomorrow or yesterday. Keep yourself in today and don't pick up that first drink.
hugs, Wendy

Hi again ... I think keeping at it is VERY important .. keep trying.

I also didn't make it through the weekend .. but didn't too too badly. Usually on Sunday nights I'll drink whatever's left over from Saturday and am usually tired Monday morning .. BUT, I didn't .. and I'm wide awake and energetic today. I just LOVE that feeling.

Day one again .. and it feels good. Maybe I'll make it all the way to Friday - and beyond - this week.

Don't give up!!!!

Good luck to you too!

yea i think one has to set small goals and work toward them. My goal this week is to try and not drink but if i do it is to only have one or two beers in the afternoon.

i tried that controlled drinking...its that first one that gets me in trouble, not the ones that follow.
the smallest of goals i can set today is to not drink today.
some days that's a big goal!!
keep coming back!!
