What do YOU do about insomnia???
Insomnia is my nemesis. I have fought it for years.
Something that helps me, if my mind won't settle down, is to close my eyes and take a mental visual tour of some place calming, like my grandmother's house, for example (which I haven't been to since she died about 40 years ago). I'll go through each room, notice the wallpaper, the pictures on the wall, the furniture, the windows and I rarely make it through more than 2 rooms before I am zonked. Sort of like counting sheep but less boring.
Now STAYING zonked is another issue for another thread.
Hugs
Ann

Hi gang! Sorry I haven't been around...we think we may have sold our house!!!!! BUT...the person interested is a little quirky and not well seasoned in business deals so we're just trying to be meticulous in our dealings.
It's been something to contemplate when I can't sleep...lol.
recently I've been trying to refine my sleep ritual:
Like Ann it's pleasant to take a mental excursion someplace soothing...often a walk in the forest, surrounded by cool, whispering evergreens and curious deer.
Drink my chamomile tea or milk.
read poetry or prose (but not Vogon...sorry Nogard!!! )
DON'T watch the evening news...it's too distressing.
I haven't been very good about meditating or composing my mind for sleep, like others have suggested...so I'm trying to get to that happy place in my mind and stay there!
Sometimes I just wake up and worry and worry, then worry some more. Now I keep a sleep journal by my bed...if it bugs me I write it down to deal with in the morning.
Fresh linens and plump pillows, can't speak highly enough of these.
Have my hubby rub lotion on my hands...my sister sent me the aromatherapy brand "Sleep"...vanilla and lavendar, it smells wonderful!
I wish you all sweet dreams tonight.

lol pearl.
Here are some serious suggestions;
Tuna or salmon sandwich (some fish has a sedative in it apparently)
Hot Milk.
Meditation (thats works, I know because I use this)

I just have a tendency to go overboard on things like that. Plus I'd have to pay overseas shipping, right? I'm trying to grow fragrant flowers that I can put in the house, too. I think I talked about that on the Gardening thread and/or the Fragrances thread.

Oh I see, well if your interested and you told me what you wanted I could get the best price and send it to you. Or you could learn how to make your own up, I know someone here that does that, I get my "rescue remedy" from her.

Actually, they probably used to teach that sort of stuff in pharmacy school, but that would have been well before I got there. Pharmacognosy, which I believe involved identification of plant parts, etc., was no longer part of the curriculum.
pearl,
You getting more sleep these days? I hope so!

Eddie, I'm not getting much more sleep but I'm resting well. Thanks! I'm trying to divest myself of the habit of worrying overmuch and putting that energy into making plans to take care of "things".
I've got alot on my plate right now, a big trip, sold our house, closing out permits, placing our dogs and horses with good families...lots of little things.
