Just want to say hi!

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to say that I still hang out here, mostly lurking these days. I have about 5 1/2 months sober now and started my journey right here on SR last February. Still go to meetings several times a week and am finally doing pretty well in my new job I took in early sobriety. I thought I was going to get fired, but my brain came back and I'm functioning now!

Anyway, just wanted to check in and let everyone know I'm still sober and I follow quite a few of the threads here on SR. I really appreciate everyone here.

Daniel (Jup).

Hi AngelHugs,

I'm doing pretty well. I am still going to meetings after so many here on SR encouraged me to go that first one. I was afraid that since I had gone out about 15 years ago after about 1.5 years of sobriety, I would not be welcome in the program. I have since learned that going out and coming back in happens to some and no one is barred because of it. It is just part of recovery and most of the old timers really appreciate us new-comers (I have learned that the program is a lot more inclusive than I thought it was back in February).

My job is much better, although not without peril. I am a network engineer and found that at about four months of sobriety my brain began to function. It gets better all the time and I am 43 with about 10 years of heavy drinking under my belt and some "light" drinking and using before that for quite a few years. My memory works again and I can handle increasingly complex tasks. My network skills are coming back after a long deep freeze and even got a decent 90 day review.

I am dealing with some horrible personalities (nasty clients), but working the program around them helps a lot. I just celebrated my daughter's ninth birthday and am still married somehow to my long suffering wife of 15 years. We go to Disneyland in September (can hardly wait to ride the re-opened Space Mountain). Life is soooooooooooooooooooooooo much better!

Anyway, just wanted to say that there is hope for us really heavy drinkers. Even after quite a few years. I'm proof.

Daniel

i'm good, dealing with the days, clean and sober
celebrated 1 year june 9th, actually got my 1 year medallion just this week, unfortunately at funeral for a fellow member from my home group. he had 30 years of sobriety and passed on sober. Kind of makes my medallion that much more special to me though.
My girls are great, still working on getting my youngest home with me...
Mom is still playing the waiting game with doctors, but is hanging in there.
thanks for asking.
And how is your family??
Hows your step work coming along? Did you redo that step??
keep in touch Jup, you're in my thoughts and prayers my friend.
keep on keepin' on
Wendy

Glad you checked in and Congrats!! Keep up the good work!

Jupiter2 07-23-2005 07:51 AM

Hi Wendy and Chy,

Thanks for asking about the steps. I submitted my second attempt at my fourth step to my sponsor last Wednesday and this time it passed muster. I have officially completed my fourth! My first attempt was just plain wrong (pretty short spreadsheet with what was wrong with everyone else) My second attempt was ok (much longer Word doc with my part in what was wrong in my life).

Things are good right now. Just trying to live in the present and not anticipate the bad stuff that "might" happen. I keep hearing it is really hard for us to live in the present and I think that is so true for me.

Jup
